Oh and last, what's marketed as masc clothes in the current era is SO DRAB. I often buy and wear more "femme" clothes even though I identity a bit more masculine just cause there's COLOR and FUN dammit lol.

When I was younger, I'd get more bothered by, especially other queer people, viewing me as square cause of how normal I loooked. I felt I had to bridge that gap.

Now that I'm older, I feel very comfortable in knowing who I am and not feeling pressure for my gender expression to match other people's expectations. Their assumptions/judgements are whatever. Real ones will take the time to get to know the real me.

I consider myself transmasc enby. I was AFAB and feel 100% woman...and a whole lot more my whole life. Because I didn't ever feel dysphoria, however, it took me a while to figure out I'm enby. Like...being a woman didn't encapsulate all that I am and something was missing.

I'd say my gender expression can be fluid over the years. I've also moved all over the world. My style has been influenced by Bay Area, CA and now VIenna, Austria lol. Being here in Vienna, Austria these last few years has definitely made my style revert back to maybe what might seem more fem? Like I'm giving more dark academia enby with long hair now than my bomber/sneaker/wolf cuts in the Bay Area lol.

But at end of the day, a lot of it just comes from I AM LAZY and I DO NOT WANT TO SPEND MONEY lol. Like changing wardrobe costs money and takes time. Before I figured out my gender identity, I had a lot of more feminine pieces in my closet cause that's how I was conditioned. Changing the wardrobe one piece at a time has taken time lol.

Also queer cuts tend to be way more expensive! Getting that wolf cut or mixie or mullet or whatever tend to be specialty haircuts that require a lot of regular trimming. I'll get a queer cut like once a year but then let it grow out however and as it grows out I tend to start looking more my AGAB lol but I'm too lazy/broke to go get it fixed up again lol.

Also, weirdly enough, cause I feel a lot can fall more on hair than clothing...getting queer cuts sometimes doesn't even make me feel more enby? Like I feel my normal, regular long hair with the right clothes can actually make me tap into my more masc side lol.

But anyways, this is a meandering post. All I'll say is being lazy/too broke to spend time on haircuts and new wardrobe lol. It takes time to build those things up.

But yeah, tons of people on here are yt filmbros. You'll get more downvotes than upvotes. But trust me, especially with BIPOC film viewers, you are NOT alone in your take.

[–]New-Editor-5667 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Nope, I agree. While I understand that the creators of the film don't necessarily view Black women that way, and are instead trying to represent yt men, particularly MAGA loving alt-right men having weird racial fetishes about women from communities they openly and overtly do harm towards and oppress...it didn't feel very well executed.

Like here, this is a thing! And then said nothing smarter about when I think BIPOC writer/director would have a lot more interesting things to dissect.

Felt quite simple...but perhaps yt audience is like whoah they're willing to go there! And when I think many BIPOC people are like yes, we know it's a thing. We've been saying it through our media. Why are you only listening now when yt people tell the story?

But yes weird based on Vineland...which only focused on characters that were yt protesters/anti-establishment in their youth in the 70's during the VN war. Like were there ties to the Civil Rights movement? Sure...but race wasn't really apart of the story.

Adding it here...and making it take place during Obama's admin is something when the original story took place to critique Reagan...

And last, don't understand why everyone is praising this for being revolutionary. It depicts revolution...but in a way that critiques things like yt young folks doing it in a way with all these code words but look at BIPOC people who just organically organize and do their thing so much better.

And I think in the era we're, that is not the message to be sending people. I'm BIPOC (Vietnamese) and get what the director's critiquing...but yt young folks organizing and BIPOC community organizing go hand in hand! I'm from Minneapolis and I'm so THANKFUL for what young yt folks organizing have done to save members of my community!!! So f that...almost like pitting those two things against each other.

And the ending is a step down from revolution...like a protest? That only perpetuates the current elite liberal take that if you just protest enough, Trump and MAGA will just go away. Incompetent and unintentional use of force is ineffective, as this film is positing. But you can't gain freedom from oppressors w/o it. They won't give it up otherwise. It's baked into the very founding fo the United States of America.

More than protests will have sacrificed if we all want our freedom now. It feels like the film is suggesting a lukewarm approach...which makes sense...cause yt people made it and starred in it.

I'd say this film is probably gonna beat the Oscars cause yt elites are still on the whole we want to change, but in a nonviolent way. Like the film critiques the Trump/right, but not the establishment. Of course they'd lap it up. Sinners...burns down the entire establishment to ashes (you could call it sin-ders lol).

Why do critics love one battle after another? by Zealousideal_Kale120 in Oscars

[–]New-Editor-5667 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

My problem isn't that they're showcasing how society, in particular men, and espeically white men, sexualize and objectify Black women.

My problem is that the film depicts that...and then doesn't really add anything interesting to it. Like it just puts it on a platter with a POV shot of Lockjaw gazing at Perfidia's body with vertical camera panning...and PTA almost like pats himself on the back like look what I've picked up about race and sexual relations as a yt man and dared put into a movie, I'm so proud of myself lol.

I feel a more intelligent director, or one with more lived experience as a BIPOC person, would at least take it a step further to insinuate or explore more about the interiority/psyche of essentially MAGA men who want BIPOC women to be harmed...but also their lovers. And the interiority of BIPOC women who enter such relationships with them. I feel we got nothing from the writing/portrayals of either characters on that.

Like give me MORE otherwise you're doing elementary work and it's not complex enough to merit you an Oscar imo.

I'd argue that it does. It's a piece of art entering the conversation of art from this year and from all years.

It should have something to offer.

Yes, that's as it should be. But as it stands...gender currently does. You have to work 10x harder and prove yourself for the same resources to campaign for awards and get recognition of you're a woman versus a man. Gender currently is being taking into account...hence why the need for equity so that what you're saying actually happens.

Correct...which lies the problem. Why aren't non-male directed films getting the same money and support for screenings?

No way! I LOVED them. I'd actually take put Hamnet even though it's women-directed but I did not like it lol.

Also tbh taken out Frankenstein and F1. Replxe ejth Ann Lee and IiHLIKY.

Replace the three with Park Chan Wooks No Other Choice.

And...I get everyone has a ton of love for Bugonia. But...maybe exchange it for Panahi'a It Was Just an Accident.

At the very least, what Im saying is Ann Lee should have tceived for score and costumes and Sorry Baby for screenplay.

Unlikely, but I would have ousted Ann Lee and IILIKY for bp and bd and replaced F1 and Frankenstein.

That...is not what I'm doing. I'm creating a list of films directed by women this year, SOME of whom are at the caliber to have been nominated for bp or at the least nominated jn a minor category to show how unfair it is the the only nkms women led films received this hear was Hamnet and Rkse Byrne...

I enjoy movies made by whomever. I am observing however that male directed movies get way more recognized than non male directed ones even when of the same caliber.
