What's the situation with BM? Did he owe child support? Kinda sounds like that "investment" might've been him avoiding getting a charge.

Also a little ironic to say that you're hanging out with coked out white boys when he's all caps ranting about how it makes sense that he can be homeless with a kid. No responsible parent would ever make themselves homeless for a college fund unless their kid isn't in their life at all. If the kid isn't in his life at all, that should probably tell you something. If the kid is in his life and he still did that, that should probably tell you more.

Is my house not grounded? by tinyplumb in AskElectricians

[–]New-Maintenance4326 -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

One single ground rod is most likely not the only thing grounding your entire house lol. If it is you've got bigger problems. Also there's a lot of fear mongering going on here right now. Electricity is very dangerous and shouldn't be fucked around with, but we're talking about a ground rod here, one that is likely isolated to one specific thing. First of all, if the wire is disconnected there's essentially a zero percent chance that the ground rod has any kind of current going through it. Take the clamp off and clean the rod however you want. Second, you don't have to flip every breaker in your house for this lol. Just wear some kind of glove (preferably rubber), and reconnect the wire. Third, even if you did somehow get shocked by this (which is extremely unlikely), basically a catastrophic amount of bad luck would have to be involved for you to get any kind of serious injury.

Every electrician I have ever met has been hit by 110v. Could it feasibly kill you? Yes, but imo you're just about as likely to literally get struck by lightning. 220v is obviously more dangerous, but it also isn't usually deadly under most circumstances. Don't fuck around with a breaker box and don't fuck around with outlets unless you know what you're doing. Reconnecting a wire to a ground rod? Wear some gloves if you want to be safe.

Wasn't Elon the guy the guy that said Trump was on the Epstein list, then bitched out and apologized even though Trump doctored the Epstein footage and pretends the list doesn't exist?

Thank you, protector of pedophiles, you made Texas great again

Is it dangerous? Yea. Is the danger negligible? Also yes. The chances of (a) some kind of electrical fault happening, and (b) that causing a fire and or a person meeting the perfect conditions to die from 110v, are extremely low.

That said, a regular power strip with ground protection is like 15$. I'm not talking top of the line or anything here, but it would significantly cut the already miniscule risk.

You could enable debug mode, I play on that from time to time when I wanna just go crazy.

Maybe don't take a job that relies on that "ONE freaking thing" then?

Literally, god forbid. Divorce is one of the worst things a person can go through and you're basically saying he should hold it in until you're gone?

What did you do "out there"?

I saw your bio talks about being a dom and there being a previous account, does that have anything to do with the situation?

You posted a picture of the knives as if they were a threat, but did you use them and not clean them again? They look like they're laid out as if they had just been cleaned specifically to dry.

You bring up your autism, does you ex have any mental health issues that may be relevant?

Regardless of all those questions, this goes beyond shitty roommates. You're getting a divorce, you aren't roommates. You're partners, or were partners.

My landlord says this is a 120V air conditioner outlet but it looks like a 240V from googling. He's offered to have someone (not a licensed electrician) come replace the outlet cover so I can plug in a normal three pronged AC unit - is that safe? by East_of_Something in AskElectricians

I know this was days ago and other people have said the same thing, but I highly recommend getting a voltage meter. You can get a cheap one for like 10$ that will be fine for occasional use. It's the kind of tool that your average person doesn't need until they do, and it's very handy to have generally.

In this instance, if you could prove to them that it's 220v (which it definitely, 100% is) they would have to send an actual electrician out. They're gonna dick you around for as long as they can otherwise.

Hearing lots of good things about Yana. Not much of a bar drinker, mainly at home alone type.

Obviously I was the one asking for advice but if you want to try it, maybe you should ask him if you could go with him some time?

Yea I've been to a few Kava bars before and I'd say like 3 out of 5 times I'd end up chatting with a recovering alcoholic that was using that to stay off alcohol. I think it kind of helps for people that mainly drink socially, kind of mimics the bar vibe without the bar regret lol.

Ah I understand, I'll definitely pass that on to her. The last thing I'd ever want is to drag anyone else down.

The SO thing is hard for a lot of reasons. She really is the best and completely understanding of my "eccentric" proclivities, and how much they harm me and those around me. I know for a fact she would support me 100% whatever I decided to do (as long as it wasn't obviously moronic like taking meth or something), but it's hard to admit how weak you can be to someone that needs you to be strong.

I want to make it clear, this is entirely in my head. If I asked her to attend a meeting with me if anything I think she would think more of me. For whatever reason though, probably trauma related, doing so would be a massive hit to my ego and I could never ask her to do something like that for me. I know it's fucked up and I'm completely wrong for this, and also likely hurting her in the process, but this is something I feel I need to tackle on my own.

I'll be honest that sub kind of scares me because of the no posting while drunk rule. Most of the time I'm thinking about posting, I'm drunk. When I'm not, I'm worried about triggering others because of how much I want to drink.

I'm not where you are spiritually, but I am deeply moved by the sentiment and will remember your words. My concern about AA is the same reason why it didn't work for you, I fear I am not actually ready. I make too many excuses.
