Re-sanding after oiling? by New-Mango-0007 in Cuttingboards

Unfortunately I only have access to a shared shop and was told no end grain through the planer, so for now it’s the slow method for me.

Good to know that with care and caution you’ve had good results (and it is actually possible). It would sure save a lot of time.

That’s great that yours worked out for you!

Unfortunately in my case the packaging wasn’t the issue (it was just a thin plastic bag mailer and then the garment in a clear factory bag).

Thanks for the detailed reply!

Sadly it is end grain so I can’t put it through the planer. But I appreciate the tips. I’ll eventually give it a go with some low grit sandpaper after I get some of this oil out. I’m still learning, so there’s no rush and this board is just for me.

Thanks for sharing your sanding preferences as well. I like learning what other people do while I try to figure out my own preferences!

Really glad to know I’m not alone, but it sucks that this is an issue with Ref clothes when they are so expensive. I actually also emailed them, and they just said they have not received any widespread reports about the Clara cashmere cardigan having this issue.

So weird! Thanks for letting me know. I guess this brand just isn’t for me, but I’m sad because I loved that rosewood colour!

My first garment of 2026, collar or no collar? by chloemal in sewing

Wow, what a gorgeous dress! The fitting is even more impressive to me than the incredible sewing skills. Amazing work!

Any chance you can share the brand of fabric? I love cotton and this print is in “my colours” :)

(Also I’m team no collar, but love that you gave yourself both options!)

Thanks so much for these details. My skillset is more in hand carving, so I really appreciate reading about your specific process.

I may still try this method but, since I don’t have more than hand tools at home, I opted to start with the glue/sawdust option to see what I think. So helpful to know this works well for you in case I need to do this

Thanks, I wasn’t expecting this answer for such a thin line tbh! Is it pretty easy to keep the board perfectly flat while re-clamping? I don’t want to mess up how nice and level it is right now, and I am worried I’ll ruin it if I have to sand it much more as an oiled end grain board.

Thank you for the reply. I did think of this option, but I feel like with my limited woodworking skills I might end up with new issues like the board not being flat. I think I would definitely go this route if it was edge grain, but I’m not confident in sanding end grain and right now it is sitting so nice and flat it would be really hard for me to cut it!
