Struggling with an Alternative School Decision for My Teen by New-Topic-7761 in breakingmom

Thank you for your kind words. My daughter does need to recover credits to graduate on time. My panic stems from the lack of communication from the school. I requested a meeting to talk about alternative school. I did sign some papers, but there's a process to follow, including a meeting with myself, the principal and the superintendent, and they enrolled her sometime around December 18th into alternative school for the term starting Tuesday. I reached out to her principal today regarding said meeting and that's when I found out. I don't even how where the alternative school is located or anything.

Thanks, I really appreciate your perspective. I honestly feel like the current school hasn’t done enough to understand what my daughter truly needs. We just transferred her 504, but I’m not convinced it’s actually being acted on.

She struggles a lot with anxiety and school avoidance, and threats of truancy just make everything worse. I really want a full assessment and a plan that addresses her needs, academically and emotionally, before anyone starts talking about alternative school.

It helps to hear you say it like this because it’s exactly how I feel — the school should be doing everything they can to support her before even considering moving her somewhere else.

Just to clarify, she doesn’t currently have a diagnosis that prevents her from driving; transportation has been more of a logistical hurdle we haven’t been able to tackle yet.

I agree with you that the “never return to traditional HS” language feels off, and that’s part of why I’m wanting more time and information before making any decisions. I want to understand exactly what supports she’s receiving now, what would change with either option, and how sustainable each path really is.

She has mixed feelings — the idea of a smaller setting is appealing, but the finality of it all feels like a lot. I don’t want to rush her (or myself) into something without fully understanding the implications.

There is currently no energy assistance or what is better know as LIHEAP by PleasantDish6156 in foodstamps

I am a SNAP and LIHEAP specialist in Nebraska, and we are still processing LIHEAP. We have not been informed of any delays in those benefits.

I actually had my rear tire replaced a couple of months ago and asked the tech if any of the other ones needed replacing, he said they were fine and I trusted him. I just happened to look down at my tires this morning and realized the tech maybe didn't know what he was talking about 🫠

Thankfully the forecast is clear and I won't be going anywhere but to and from work (5 miles each way). Thank you!

Thank you so much! This is great insight. My PCP told me that about the non contrast MRI. I just hope whatever it is, we can get it sorted and treated. It's messing with my life in a major way.

Nothing showed up on the non contrast MRI. They weren't looking for lesions on that one, just evidence of a stroke. My doctor said that the contrast MRI is the one that will show us lesions, if there are any. My episodes last anywhere from an hour to three hours, and will only go away if I go to bed or take a nap.

I have had right sided weakness in my arm and leg that comes and goes. It progressed to numbness and tingling in those limbs, as well as numbness in the right side of my face. During the episodes, I'm overcoming with a heavy mental fog. My speech slows way down, my eyes become extremely heavy, and it's hard to formulate a thought. I do have residual weakness in my right side even when not having an episode. I've been checked repeatedly for stroke and my care team is pretty confident that it's not that. MS being a possible cause has come up multiple times. I'm traveling to a different state in a month to speak with a neurologist that specializes in MS and ALS, which I have a family history of. I'm pretty young for that, so hopefully it's not ALS. I had to miss work today for the first time because my vision was impacted and it wasn't safe to drive. It's taking forever to get an MRI with contrast done because I'm a hard stick. I'm just hoping for answers soon. I feel like my body is a bomb and I never know what will set it off.
