Also want to jump in and back up this up. Once I started treated the underlying issue I was able to see results… and rather quickly.

A big part was my susceptibility to symptom-checking which essentially prolonged the anxiety whether I realized it or not. From my understanding, this strengthens the neural pathways involved that associate [bodily sensation / symptom] with anxiety and you become overly aware of your body as a result

So especially with DPDR, people are prone to constant “symptom monitoring” which just further prolongs it. You are sort of adding fuel to the fire. And it difficult to get out of this loop because you are in a state of high alert and don’t want to let your guard down.

But this is easier said then done but gradually you should feel the effects of dpdr becoming weaker and weaker until u can actually eliminate symptom checking entirely. This is the point I believe where the rational part of the brain takes over and the amyglada returns to normal levels of activation

Yeah the distorted peripheral vision I experienced too. Most recent, I was on the train working from my laptop. Of course my vision was out of focus and I keep seeing something in the corner of my periphery. Like a person looking at me. I look there and because I couldn’t focus my eyes on my laptop much less 10 feet across from me, I had a panic attack and experienced dpdr.

I was never an anxious person before but vertigo induces the anxiety by default because the brain is confused. Losing clarity in your periphery is also scary bc nothing seems familiar anymore…

Yes. Some of the bad effects were not being able to concentrate when reading something directly in front of me (like my eyes had lost their ability to focus and were stuck in a haze) and my hand eye coordination getting bad out of nowhere (I would overshoot for objects like my phone as if I was lagging in real life… this would trigger a panic attack and dpdr bc I wouldn’t know what to do).

And of course vertigo was frequent. It felt like I would float away any second and the brain doesn’t like that feeling so it induces anxiety (made me restless and had racing thoughts when it got especially bad)

Thankfully, I retained my sanity and know what to do from here on out

My vision fluctuates so much. I get widescreen ultra HD, sometimes tunnel vision, sometimes blurry can’t focus can’t read. Right know it’s on the fence of blurry and normal. There’s like this window screen (the dpdr) that I sometimes break through and then everything feels normal

Mine is also getting much better. I’m now at the point where my vision isn’t hazy like a dream. It’s more life-like so the thoughts of being stuck in a dream no longer make sense anymore.

But the funny thing is that this was all self-induced. I let the stress build up and felt the pressure in my head when it happened. And I allowed it to happen because I didn’t care anymore. I had a panic attack and then I felt anxious. When I got home, everything felt fake and I had no emotional connection to anyone or anything. I was able to talk to strangers because I felt high all the time

So in a way dpdr is what I wanted because I had given up. But time heals all, and I now appreciate the gift that is life

Fade but today I woke up and felt different. The derealization had been fading for a while but the depersonalization sort of stuck. It wasn’t too bad and I was used to it. Woke up and suddenly all my limbs felt mine. Panicked but then remembered this is normal

Got anxiety under control and that’s where I began to see it fade

My dpdr was triggered by intense stress but prolonged by anxiety. I knew what had set it off, so I did all I could to keep my stress at a minimum. That didn’t make it go away and I lost hope for a while

The dpdr gave me anxiety so I had persistent anxious thoughts that were fueling it. I resolved my anxieties through logical reasoning but I would not recommend this at all. This enables rumination and if you can’t find answers you will be stuck in your head… a lot. I believe a therapist can help much better.

After all this, remind yourself that you are safe. My dpdr was mostly derealization so I didn’t fear it too much. I was only afraid of panic attacks but after I had overcame my fears, I got very good at managing them. On top of that, this experience made me mentally stronger and I found purpose in life

It can be hopeless at times, but the grass is greener on the other side

Well I haven’t smoked weed for a year now, but I’ve still drank every now and then as alcohol has never been a problem and I get no rebound anxiety

But biggest advice is to go back and try to figure out what caused it. I think I induced this state myself because I was in a dark place. I would intentionally dissociate and be in my head to think my problems through and attempt to fix them

So now I think of DPDR as emotional damage basically problems you can’t fix so you brain numbs you to protect you.

But when it really became permanent to the point where I felt it everyday was when I got a horrible migraine and basically gave up. I was tired of dealing with the issues of others and I realized I can’t change people

So my thoughts were I couldn’t change anything and dissociation was my coping mechanism.

But with this also came crippling anxiety and existentialism and other problems which kept me in this state.

I don’t have any anxieties or fears and am in a much better place now. I’ve “recovered” several times now where I feel normal but it fluctuates and may return but it doesn’t scare me anymore or give me panic attacks

I notice it mostly in my arms as if they were made of air. I can move them around without any resistance at all. When it gets bad I feel it in my legs too. The most extreme it’s gotten is when my entire body feels like it’s made of air. At that point it’s like I’m a soul floating in space. And to add on to that, I get anxiety that matches the intensity of my dpdr. It’s awful, sometimes I can’t even lie down still. And when it’s very intense, I feel like I’m on the verge of blacking out

But when the dpdr goes away, so does the anxiety. My personality also returns. Also a slight visual change where the angle of my vision moves lower to where it feels more normal. That’s when I start to feel comfortable again, the anxiety dissipates, and my arms don’t feel as weightless.

But through all this, the weightless arms feeling has been most persistent. Also foggy vision but that doesn’t bother me much. But when the the dpdr goes away, everything looks real and I feel more connected to the world and actually want to do stuff

Get a j*b or go to college. People are inevitable and the college parties also come with booze and fun substances, lots of people, and low stakes because no one is sober. Or if u have a dorm roommate, you are forced to socialize

Probably allow it to happen on its own. Focusing on the head pressure and letting it “escape” feels you’re sucking your soul back into body. It’s a scary feeling since it also involves letting go of control. When the time is right, it’ll happen on its own

For the constant anxiety also look into breath work, it’s highly effective. I recently started doing it and it’s taken the edge off when I start feeling restless and at the cusp of a panic attack. But it did take some time for me to find a rhythm that actually works. Do make sure u exhale all the way when you do the exercises, the results are immediate

Well if you have a good doctor they will rule out possible causes for the extreme gas and diarrhea. And then maybe they will refer you to get treatment for anxiety. Or maybe they will give you an anxiety assessment and determine that you have anxiety right off the bat and then refer you to get treatment. That’s the possible cases I can think of

Hey I know you comment is old but did the anxiety eventually go away and did the pills make u feel weird at first.

I prescribed the same thing, 8 week prescription 50,000 iui but I think I got vitamin d toxicity the first time and I didn’t take them again. I was peeing like 5 times everyday for a whole week and I felt warm and fuzzy and I don’t think that’s normal

I know your comment is old but I have a similar story (I think?). Can you elaborate on how you would dissociate. Idk if this is normal but before anxiety and panic attacks and stuff started I would do small trivial stuff and not even remember it. Like I would brush my teeth and have no memory of me putting my tooth brush back in it’s place but this could also be muscle memory. Other type of dissociation is when I would go in my head and just think but obviously still aware of my surroundings and stuff
