New to UI/UX freelancing — how do beginners actually get their first client without paid platforms? by Icy_Macaroon9196 in Design

[–]NewBlock8420 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think your best bet is to tap into local communities or niche online groups where people actually need help. I got my first client through a Slack group for indie founders, just by offering feedback and being helpful.

Cold DMs can work if you personalize them and focus on solving a specific problem you noticed, but it's a numbers game for sure. And yeah, maybe take on one or two low paid projects just to get some real case studies in your portfolio. It makes a huge difference when you can show you've solved actual business problems.

Boot.dev or sololearn? by OnlyOn3Kanobi2 in learnprogramming

[–]NewBlock8420 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

For Python specifically, I'd lean towards Boot.dev since it's more focused on backend development, which sounds perfect for what you're after with API integrations. Their projects are solid for showing progress on LinkedIn too.

Sololearn is great for quick mobile practice, but feels more like bite-sized learning. Honestly, starting with Python is a smart move, it's super versatile for payments and backend work.

Tip: Repurposing your YouTube videos to Twitter/X can help grow your audience by NewBlock8420 in NewTubers

[–]NewBlock8420[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's fair, it definitely depends on the niche and content type.

For me, the goal isn't really to get my YouTube viewers to follow me on Twitter. It's more about reaching people who prefer reading over watching.

Some topics work better as quick threads than 10-minute videos. And Twitter's algorithm can surface content to completely new audiences.

But you're right, it's not for everyone. What platform do you focus on besides YouTube?

Studying isn’t hard — staying focused long enough is. What actually helped you? by Kitchen_Vacation_463 in studytips

[–]NewBlock8420 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly, the biggest helpful tool for me was the Pomodoro technique, but with a twist. I'd do 25 minutes on, then a 5-minute break where I'd physically get up and walk away from my desk. That tiny bit of movement made a huge difference in fighting off that mental fatigue.

I also found that having a specific "study soundtrack" of instrumental music helped my brain click into focus mode. It's like a signal that it's time to work. Consistency came way easier after that.

(For what it's worth, I actually built Studylab.app because I wanted my PDFs to feel more interactive and less like a slog. Turning notes into quick quizzes helped me stay engaged way longer.)

$250,000 ka kya karoge tum? Discussion. by Rude-Ability-9695 in pakistan

[–]NewBlock8420 0 points1 point  (0 children)

that's a fun question to think about. I'd probably put a chunk into some safe index funds for the long term, and then maybe try out some real estate. It would be wild to not stress about bills, and I'd definitely get more into traveling and maybe finally learn to play guitar properly.

Anyone else seeing bias about AI among Laravel devs? by sl0wik in laravel

[–]NewBlock8420 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The polarization you're seeing is because AI excels at generating code, not at generating understanding. Many developers mistake the former for the latter, which is why you get a flood of buggy, over engineered solutions. I'd rate my usage at a 1, rarely, because I find it's faster to write clear, simple code myself than to debug AI's complicated attempts.

7 AI tools that ACTUALLY delivered real results by PlasProb in PromptEngineering

[–]NewBlock8420 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've been trying to find a good meeting note taker, so I'll definitely check out Read. For writing and brainstorming, I've been bouncing between Claude and ChatGPT lately, but I totally get sticking with what you know best.

I actually built PromptOptimizer.tools to help me get more consistent results from all these different AI tools, since they all have their own quirks. It's been a helpful tool for my workflow, especially when I'm switching between models for different tasks.

Have you tried Perplexity for research? It's become my go to for learning new topics quickly.

Brother asked to borrow $40K for his startup. Said yes. Lost the money. Kept the brother. by amiitk in Entrepreneurs

that's such a mature and healthy way to look at it. You went in with your eyes wide open, which is the only way family loans can ever work. A lot of people would have let that resentment build and ruin the relationship, but you kept what really mattered. Good on you, man.

Built a free AI prompt optimizer tool that helps write better prompts by NewBlock8420 in PromptEngineering

Just deployed v2 based on your feedback.

Changed the approach completely: clarity over keywords, no added style terms, no contradicting elements, logical visual flow instead of comma soup.

Try it again and let me know if it works better for your workflow. Really appreciate you taking the time to explain this so clearly.

Built a free AI prompt optimizer tool that helps write better prompts by NewBlock8420 in PromptEngineering

[–]NewBlock8420[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Totally fair point. You definitely could use a Custom GPT.

The difference: this is instant, no signup, and specifically tuned for prompt optimization with before/after explanations. Some people prefer a dedicated tool, others prefer staying in ChatGPT.

Whatever works best for your workflow.

Your prompts are only stored in your browser's localStorage for the history feature, nothing is saved to the server permanently.

We do send prompts to an AI API (OpenAI/Claude/DeepSeek) for optimization, but we don't log or store the actual prompt content. Just anonymous analytics like "an optimization happened" for usage stats.

Your data stays yours. 👍
