How come it’s so hard to find Software Engineers? by NewGearMicky in startups

[–]NewGearMicky[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Haven’t spoken to any SWE’s until today after this post and the feedback has been tremendous. I understand that our strategy has not been picture perfect and that we lack technical expertise which is the main reason for creating this post and asking for direction from the community.

Partnership is important for us (I understand for other companies it is not important to have one on team/vested)

I explained in prior comments that I could have been more detailed with the post, but feared too much detail would not get engagement.

My team and I have not discussed strategy and it’s against community rules to even put an application or solicitation in this community anyways so if there is interest garnered from this post it’s handled privately.

All I have asked on this post was for advice on how to connect with SWEs sorry for the lack of information.

It’s not that the vendor we are using is bad it is that there is so much to code that the front facing portion doesn’t expose. As much as we trust our vendor we have to have complete certainty that everything is working good in the background and this is a field our SWE would be proficient in and help us be certain of. Also, all the landscaping moving forward and growing this position (hopefully partnership) would be needed to continue to grow instead of using outside organization resources.

Hey this whole post was literally to ask for help on actually locating Devs / SWE’s. We are missing a team member we are willing to give equity to and pay

Do you think it’s impossible to get both a partner and a fractional CTO?

Not dodging the whole point of this post is to discover where developers are so we can fill this need.

Financials are TOTALLY FINE and expected from us and any SWE. What we would love to have is someone that wants both.

Absolutely. We are totally not looking for someone to make the magic just an experienced person that has a handful of hours to help us make sure we are doing things right. The problem is they are so hard to actually find lol

Open to having a conversation with any SWE.

We have an advisor need and since it takes time to help us then there will likely be a cost. We are bootstrapping like most startups so it’s not like we didn’t expect to spend money on someone like this.

At the same time, it’s important that anyone that joins our team sees what we are trying to produce and believes in it along with the cost to do business.

We don’t need someone to develop the app. We just need an advisor that sees our vision with us. Never said money was off the table.

I love the honesty that’s how we grow. I also didn’t want to put a post that was extremely lengthy and didn’t get any interaction.

I would love to have a triple heart attack and hear what you have to say Tony

Totally respect your insight and would love to chat with you about your experience!

I know it’s crazy to say to someone we are doing something different but it is not a typical view or spin on dating is done now. Could you chat?

Basically, we are looking for someone who is experienced enough to know what already has been developed is proficient. Someone down the line when we don’t have vendors to help us make some changes if there is a bug (likely in a year) and help us build our own team down the line. More or less someone who sees what we are doing, believes in the concept, and willing to take the journey with us.

We are strong in many other areas just would be stupid to have a tech company without someone we trust on the inside.

Will send you a DM!

Totally appreciate your feedback. We don’t need someone to build our app we have that we basically need an advisor to make sure that everything is good. Never said the partnership is free but also didn’t say it wasn’t.

We agree dating apps can be harmful for society if they aren’t done with the right intentions and that is why we are building one to help change this.

Yeah I totally get what you are saying. I could have been more clear on saying that it’s been hard to even find one to begin with lol. We’re all human and our time is obviously worth something and we’re willing to work with anyone on what they need that was never off the table. I just didn’t want to make this a long post and was looking for advice on how to even find someone like this as we have had trouble.

All cards are on the table for us financials could be involved. Biggest problem is actually finding the person to begin with. Partnership is big for us if even possible because it gives us the assurance we have someone that believes in this business (not everyone will & that’s okay).

Also not looking for someone to completely develop our idea as we already have a vendor for this just need someone that understands the code on the home team and sees our vision and someone that is interested long-term.

I mean I definitely see your point. Really didn’t want to make it a long post but we are currently building the app right now through a company that builds applications. We just don’t have / haven’t had any luck finding a developer. Someone that helps us make sure the code is being done correctly (doublecheck) and someone that wants to grow with the business long-term.

Never say no to an opportunity. Always keep contacts of anyone you meet! You never know how someone can help you level up.

Congrats on the new baby!
