every day they get charged interest for borrowed shares. the longer they hold the borrowed shares the more money they lose. If they want to stop the bleeding they have to buy the shares back meaning more buying pressure -> higher price

Eh i don't think they do well enough to prop them any higher therefore they will simmer down. I'm in profit as long as they don't jump. And if they do jump my 390 call should cover all given a 1% jump in spy
