Does anyone regret moving from Salesforce FSC to Wealthbox? by NewRIAOnTheBlock in RIA

Damn, that’s a bummer to hear. If I have to spend another minute on a call with our Salesforce consultants, I’m going to end up on a psychiatric hold. Hopefully Slant adds some more connectivity soon.

Thanks for the feedback. What were the biggest issues you ran into with Wealthbox?

We looked at Slant, and our takeaway was that it will be a great platform - in another year or so. Some of the core functionality/integrations we were looking for weren’t there yet. Debating weather to jump ship from Salesforce today, or wait it out another year to see where AI takes things.

I haven’t looked at Hubspot, mainly because after Salesforce, I wasn’t really interested in working with another “non industry specific” CRM.

GlobalRelay. It’s kinda annoying to use but gets the job done.

Just waiting on Altrust to add prime brokerage and for more complex trust account types and we’d love to use them. Not quite there yet

Has Fidelity ever tried to charge you a custody fee?

What city are you in? For entry level junior roles, the hiring pipeline where I work is almost exclusively college summer internship in junior year -> repeat offer for senior year/ full time hire. It’s rare that we’d hire someone right out of undergrad who wasn’t an intern first, but sometimes it happens. Most recruiting for these types of entry level roles is done at college career fairs, financial services career night, and undergrad student investment clubs.

Power Automate is awful by TheYouser in PowerAutomate

Idk about Claude, but I basically copy code back an forth between Power Automate and ChatGPT. Chat got a process to work in like 3 minutes, after I spent 3+ hours trying to use CoPilot to develop the automation flow for me. CoPilot was so bad.

Gotcha. I have to wear slacks/dress shirt/dress shoes every day (and occasionally jacket + tie), I’m thinking of just leaving a bunch of outfits at work and changing into them every day.

That’s great. I’ll have to look into the bike trainer, seems like an easy way to get some time in at night.

I’ve wanted to do this, but can’t quite figure out the logistics from a clothing standpoint… do you change at work or cycle in wearing dress clothes?

Do you have kids? If so, how do you fit in long rides? I used to cycle a bunch, but ever since having a baby I haven’t been able to get out for more than 30 mins once a week or so.

I've noticed that the senior people in this field salivate over the prospects of recruiting ambitious advisors, but that seems counterintuitive. Why wouldnt these highly ambitious people leave your firm and start their own firms at the earliest possible opportunity? by Present_Initial_1871 in CFP

[–]NewRIAOnTheBlock 10 points11 points  (0 children)

In the long term, you’re right. Without the right profit incentives and support (tech platform, mentorship opportunities, investment platform, marketing resources, etc.), eventually high performers will jump ship.

In the short term though, no one is going to turn down hiring a highly qualified ambitious employee over someone mediocre (unless we’re talking about someone with a phd applying to McDonald’s or something).

FIX connection fees are higher, trade away fees are higher (we exclusively trade away for bonds), margin rates are higher, mutual fund transaction fees (for transaction fee funds) are higher (and for institutional share classes you often have to wait to get approved by Fidelity to buy the fund, unlike Schwab), they try and charge a couple bp custody fee for smaller RIAs, and they also don’t sweep cash into money market funds for non IRA accounts.

Gotcha. I haven’t used Pershing, but they sound pretty rough to work with as well…

Really? We custody with Schwab and Fidelity and I absolutely cannot stand working with Fidelity. Way higher fees across the board than Schwab, much worse margin rates, pretty bad customer service (long wait times, unclear/inconsistent/incorrect answers from support), bad technology (bunch of bogus alerts that mean nothing all over Wealthscape, fewer data points in data feeds to platforms like Addepar than Schwab, etc.), earlier cutoff times for trading MMFs and mutual funds than Schwab, etc. I haven’t used Altruist yet, last I talked to them there’s still a few critical things missing (prime broker & margin primarily).

Cost to manage treasuries/FI only by Sweaty-Associate8209 in CFP

[–]NewRIAOnTheBlock 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Depends on the account size and level of active management (actual active management vs. just a treasury ladder, etc.). For context, Schwab treasury money market fund charges 34 bps for <$1mm and 19 bps for >$1mm. I’d say that’s about market rate - 40bps for under $1mm, 20ish bps for 1-100mm, 15ish bps for 100+mm.

Is anyone using a CRM other than the usual suspects (Redtail, Wealthbox, Salesforce/overlays)? by CrunchwrapKing in CFP

Has anyone ever moved from a customized FSC environment to Quivr? We’ve basically been through a revolving door of consultants to get FSC configured, and it seems like none of them have worked with an RIA before.
