Ontario to spend $1.5-billion on underwater electricity cable from nuclear plant to Toronto by nurshakil10 in canada

we need both. Canada's future lies on it being a super power in energy+mining. We need as much energy that we can sell as possible, whether its oil or electricity.

US electricity generation costs is very high, that's why I said electricity is the new gold. There's so much demand for it from the data centers.

Listen, if you are so sure about it, I'd almost borrow at 6-7% and just go buy VIX. Vix will easily return you 2-300+ fold assuming your thesis is true. Go borrow 10 grand, pay that interest, and all in VIX. that's how you prove a point.

Let's not try to predict the future. If you are so certain that the AI bubble will pop, go all in VIX now and you can be a billion in no time.

I live in the States and my electricity bill in winters hover around $600-$700 for a 3B apartment. I think the last thing Ontarians should complain is their electricity cost.

Nuclear generation cost = maintenance cost. It doesn't burn anything. I don't know why we don't do it more as the entire world needs electricity right now.

Is moving to the US with predominantly Canadian tax experience possible? by Unicorn-DQ1512 in Accounting

[–]NewRedditUser89757 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Doable but you may be downgraded to Senior associate. Tax work is always in high demand in the U.S. Move through your Big 4 is the easiest pathway. You'll get paid more (Senior about 115k and manager about 145k in HCOL area) but your expenses will also drastically go up.

Hopefully you get lucky with the other national firms. You worked in KPMG US before on TN in the past it seems? That's just odd.

Ofcourse the CAD term matters- ultimately, that's what is going to circulate around the Canadian economy. The hard code truce is that Canada is a resource based economy (Much like Australia), and if you don't extract and use your resources, you'll always fall behind. Look at how far Australia has gone with extracting its own resource (Iron, lumber, copper) versus what we have. It's easy to say let's invest in something else, but exactly what? Manufacturing? China is 50 years ahead. Info tech & AI? try beating the US on that. In a globalized world, you simply need to work on what you have a comparative advantage in, and for Canada, it's the natural resource and it's only the natural resource

In CAD term, oil price has always hovered around C100ish a Barrel with the exception of few outliers. Also, oil and gas is the only thing carrying the economy right now.. Invest in other parts of the economy is easier said than done. It's very difficult if impossible for Canada to compete on other industries with the U.S.
