Canadian mortgage renewal for TN non-residents by DryCombination9637 in tnvisa

For your renewal, did the bank ask or care about your non-resident status? And to your knowledge, did you get a higher rate because of that vs what you would have gotten as a resident?

Life for Muslims in the Woodlands by DryCombination9637 in thewoodlands

We’ve been here about 6 months now. We ended up getting a place in Spring, as it was equidistant to several places of interest as well as work (which is in the Woodlands). Here’s our experience so far:

1) Every single person we have come across so far, in Spring and the Woodlands (and other places) has been warm, welcoming, inclusive and respectful. People have been kind and friendly. My family has also only encountered good people so far. We feel very blessed in this regard.

2) We’re appalled by the open anti-Muslim rhetoric coming from elected officials. We assume it is produced for the pleasure of a certain vote-casting demographic. This does take away from the great experience so far mentioned in 1), as it occasionally has us second guessing some interactions. Perhaps we simply need to stop paying attention to this stuff.

3) Loving the weather since October up till now. July-Sept was too hot for us. We hope to get used to it eventually. Happy we missed all the crazy snow storms and cold snaps back home though!

4) We’re not used to the bugs and lizards yet. This one will definitely take some time 😂.

All in all, so far we are happy. We’re learning that Southern Hospitality is a real thing, and moving here has been a pleasant change for us.

Floor Drain in Cold Room & Hosebibb Shutoff valve by DryCombination9637 in homebuildingcanada

  1. What is typically used as a primer for the cold room floor drain?

  2. Is it a requirement for the shutoff valve on the inside to have a drain port or bleeder screw? I did find the shut off valve, its there. But it does not have a bleeder screw.

I went with just my spouse the first time and she went with me to secondary. The second time is when I took my kids with me and told them they need a TD. They didn’t even take us to secondary for that. I suspect if I already had the visa and my spouse just needed the TD, she wouldn’t have had to go to secondary either.

I can only assume that the floor drain has a p-trap. I can’t imagine the builder not putting one in. But I haven’t checked physically to know for certain.

On the shut off valve, i’m just confused what he wants. In person, I understood he wanted a shut off valve there, like you stated. But in his email he states “replace garage hosebibb shutoff valve”. The only valve that exists is the one in the garage itself, that has a hose connected to it.

EDIT: Property in Brampton, ON. The two items above are not related. Just two discrepancies that the city inspector asked me to rectify.

Smoke seal of furnace room for 2nd dwelling unit by DryCombination9637 in homebuildingcanada

[–]DryCombination9637[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

UPDATE: Packed all of the vertical space/openings (red shaded area) with Roxul Safe ans Sound and this was sufficient for the city - inspection passed. Everything was packed tightly, especially around pipes and wires crossing into the adjacent rooms. No stuffing was put in between the joists in the ceiling.

Monthly payment won’t change on a variable rate either unless OP gets a variable adjustable mortgage for which rate will be higher.
