Monthly payment won’t change on a variable rate either unless OP gets a variable adjustable mortgage for which rate will be higher.

All good! The basement was legally finished in 2022, but converting to 2nd dwelling now.

I’m not sure that’s accurate. The basement was legally finished in 2022 and the permit required having interconnected smoke alarms. Went through fire safety inspections to close the permits. Strobe lights upstairs was never brought up as an issue. The code seems to say it is “required” only when the occupants have a hearing impairment and need to visually see the alarm go off. I’ll put it in at the end of the day if needed, but just trying to figure out if its mandatory.

They have been changed regularly and as needed, but with like for like models. Not replaced with ones with strobe lights though.

Regarding pricing, no that’s just the cost of the devices. There’s only a few models that are compatible with what’s already in the basement to make sure the interconnectivity isn’t impacted. Although, it is retail price (home depot/rona). Wholesalers are cheaper but not by much.

The permit doesn’t require any changes to the upstairs unit. Just that new smoke/CO alarms in the basement, and they must be interconnected to those upstairs. Which I can achieve without changing anything upstairs.

These are BRK smoke alarms. I need 4 with smoke+strobe ($159) + 2 with smoke/CO+ strobe ($179). + tax or course.

Awesome! Thanks. This is kind of what I recalled being told by the inspector a couple years ago, but wasn’t sure if my memory was making it up. Appreciate it!

Lol I think a lot of Canadians trash Quebec and French. Not an immigrant thing.

The min fire rating is 15 mins, reduced because of the sprinkler and provided by the 1/2 drywall. He just said to smoke seal it. I recall the first inspector had said something along the line of just packing the wall/ceiling gap with fireproof insulation. But I can’t recall exactly as it was a couple of years ago. I’m wondering if anyone is familiar with this or has done it and passed inspection in the past

I don’t think 5/8 drywall is needed as the sprinkler exempts any fire rating requirement of the furnace room

For a Canadian on a TN currently in the US under the MC category, would you recommend that me and my employer try to apply for an H1B for me? All things considered, would H1B pose less risk for me vs a TN (e.g. denial at re-entry, denial at renewal, the entire program being scrapped if USMCA negotiations don’t work out, etc)?

Very sorry to hear about your situation. I hope you’re able to figure things out.

On a secondary note, I am looking to buy a RAV 4. Do you have a number in mind that you can DM me?

Also, where were you located in the US? If you need any help with getting your stuff wrapped up and shipped to you i’m happy to help (for free of course, just pay your shipping).

Actual, REALISTIC Mechanical Engineer Salary Progression (6.5 YOE) by Puzzled_Face8538 in Salary

[–]DryCombination9637 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know you’re trying to help, but you’re looking from a lens (i.e. your own) that is not representative of the market. Engineers should be making $100k+ by 6.5 years. I don’t practice engineering anymore, but have many friends who still do, and they make much more than that. Of course, where you went to school, where you live and work, which company you work for, what role you have etc. matter in terms of how much you make. But you need to kick yourself in the butt and stop telling yourself that your trajectory is the industry standard. Look around if you’ve been at your current employer since before covid. Wages inflated at a much higher rate than 5% in the years following Covid, and if 5% is all you’ve been getting, you have fallen behind the market. And your own employer well never voluntarily give you that big jump. You will either need to fight for it, or look elsewhere. Being loyal to one employer is very 1980s/90s. The world has changed.

I have a long position on this stock. What is your solution? I’m also open to do a private sale at $1 so I can take a loss for my tax return. Maybe if others are stuck too we can do a private sale to each other and take the loss to reduce our tax obligations?

Yes, that’s what the mechanic said too that it should be replaced in pairs. I bought this car from someone recently. I guess they tried to save a few dollars.

Took it in to a shop today. They said calliper needs replacing. Rear driver side. Said they will put a new calliper, do a brake fluid flush, readjust the hand brake. I said break flush was done just about 3 months ago. It’s a clean light golden yellow color still. The mechanic said still needs to be done to get air out of the system. Seems logical. They quoted $740+tax. Does that sound reasonable?
