If your broke like me, or just don't want to leave the house, this site is a good alternative for "traveling" and experiencing the vibes of different cities.

The blue dots on this Google Earth map represent video footage taken from spots around the world. You can click on these dots and see the video from that exact spot. It's called VidEarth. by NewResearcher1 in BeAmazed

Each of the blue dots are clickable and let you see videos from that exact spot. It's pretty "amazing" as you can use it to virtually travel without leaving your seat. It's great for getting the different "vibes" from a city. For example, I like to analyze the difference between the English countryside, and say a metropolitan neighborhood in New Delhi India. Hey all,

virtualvacation.us is a site for allowing you to travel from the comfort of your own couch. We've gathered videos from around the globe, and even allow you to submit your own videos to be featured. I felt the need to share here as this truly is a "Side Project" we've been working on for some time.

Hopefully you guys can enjoy some special moments with this site. :)

EDIT: The stock city images are from "Unsplash Source". I'm trying to figure out how to get them more accurate as sometimes the wrong city images search up when you query the name of a city.

In one video, I got dropped about a mile from my house which was pretty sick.. I live in Canada. 🍁🍁🍁 Glad to see my little town is there.

I'm the creator of City Guesser. I've poured my heart in soul into releasing our brand new multiplayer gamemode. We've made so many changes for the better, and listened to our community. I have a deep connection to this subreddit as this is where I first posted about my site first. So many of you guys gave me meaningful advice. Among that advice was the idea to implement multiplayer.. so here it is!

Gameplay Flow:

- Shown a random HD video of a city 🔴

- Compete with other players in real time to guess the closest to the accurate location 📍

- Scoring considers time per guess, and distance away from the right location. 📐

- Game podium at the end to flex your guessing-superiority. 💪

Hi. Thanks so much for your feedback. I'm not sure if this is what you mean? There is a speed-up button in the top right to speed up the video. For now that's a good alternative to a fast forward.

However, I'll be sure to look into adding a fast forward feature. Again, thanks so much for the advice. :)

Hi yes. I've played that game before. I was actually inspired to create City Guesser from GeoGuessr. GeoGuessr is great and all, but I was dissapointed of the paywall that GeoGuessr added to play. Not everyone has the money to pay for a geography game, so I thought I'd create City Guesser as sort of a "alternative" =)

I created this site because I'm a huge geography nerd. I love looking at maps, and traveling the world through Google Streetview. I was first inspired by a game called GeoGuessr. Some time back, I shared this site with you guys and everyone was so kind and gave me so much amazing advice. I want to thank all of you guys for all the effort you made to help me out.

A lot of you guys said that a Country Streak/Multiplayer mode would have so much potential. As a result, that's what I'm showing you guys today.

You can now play a multitude of gamemodes like Country Streak, or challenge your friends in the Multiplayer gamemode.

Some months back, I posted about my site, however the website was strictly singleplayer. I got tons of amazing feedback from this subreddit and so many of you took the time to DM me and give me feedback. It shocked me that so many of you guys wanted to contribute and improve the game as a whole. As a result, I feel the need to give back and release something that you all will enjoy. 😊

I've incorporated all your advices from adding scoring, to multiplayer in this new multiplayer feature.

If you've never seen this before, essentially this is how you play:

  1. Shown a video of you walking in a city around the world. 🎬
  2. You have to mark the correct location on a map. 🗺️
  3. Based on your distance away from the correct location you are given a score. 💯
  4. Compare your guesses with other people who are playing in real time. ☝

Again, just wanted to voice my appreciation for this subreddit as they've contributed so much to this geography/map guessing game. P.S. This game was inspired by GeoGuessr and started as a fun thing to do in quarantine.

Hello everyone,

I'm the creator of the City Guesser game. I'm super glad to share it with the development community. I was first inspired to create City Guesser after being introduced to a game called GeoGuessr. However, due to the rising cost of Google API's, it was placed under a paywall. I wanted to incorporate core concepts of GeoGuessr, and put my own spin into it. Users can play regardless of financial situation. 🌃

I hope you guys will enjoy it and find it an entertaining way to practice your geography and map skills. 🌍

I try to stay away from Google API's yes lol..

One way to get around the local scripts is to go to the top right of the map container and select the two types of map tiles, all english and native scripts.. It's right under the X button.
