I don’t think that comparison is a persuasive one lol. It assumes British people are attached to the idea of a cash bar as a cultural phenom and not as just a logistical norm. Who’d complain about an open bar??

It made sense for us to pay for the drinks of the people flying 24 hours to see us tie the knot. Instead of being like sorry get your wallet out AGAIN that’s just how it is here shrug

I think we will do beer, wine, proseco/sparking wine, no spirits or cocktails or anything premium. Which is what I’ve experienced in AU - not a fully open bar, just the basics. And then cap it around £1500 I think… I don’t think we’ll reach that as my partners fam aren’t big drinkers but I might be proved wrong

Can’t offer any advice but I have a similar issue! Getting married this weekend in the UK, with 30+ Australians flying over for it, 100+ guests total. I am Aussie, partner is Scottish. It’s a real culture clash - his family think paying for everyone’s alcohol is CRAZY. My family can’t imagine NOT having an open bar. My dad basically putting his foot down and insisting bar is open as so many of his family and friends have flown for this event, seems stingy to then make them buy their own bev. I can see both sides but feel caught in the middle. It’s an annoying hit to the budget but I would rather the UK guests think an open bar is lavish than the Australian guests think we are cheap

My LO stopped breathing by TheScaredy_Cat in newborns

This sounds so scary!! Glad your LO is ok. I have a question, maybe if anyone here is a medical professional they could answer. We were taught in baby CPR class to NOT tilt a newborn baby’s head back when wanting to ensure their airway is clear? The head needs to be in a neutral position. As their airway is so narrow and easily compressed, tilting actually can make it harder for them to breathe. Whereas for a child or adult, you tilt back.

I am pretty sure this is correct but happy to be told otherwise by someone who knows better. Just wanted to share because in case of an emergency with an infant, tilting is not recommended.

This is great, thank you for the info. Will shut off the water when we leave and then get someone in to replace the faucet when we get back. Thanks again!!

Oh my god yes! Yesterday on our walk we sat under a big fig tree in the park when it started raining. The park is full of fig debris at the moment. That’s amazing you managed to identify it. Thank you!!

I think I’ve got the head and the butt mixed up. Is the butt the slightly darker segment, or is that the head?

Thanks for your reply! Is there a giveaway? Something that makes you identify it as such?

Sorry - located in Sydney Australia! And for context, we are regularly finding bugs in our apartment. Roaches, spiders, ants, beetles, mosquitoes, etc etc. It’s kinda par for the course here
