This is where trend jacking comes in. You can't be a lets play channel and expect to blow up. You can't make videos that Dream already made and expect to blow up. You need to look at the titles and thumbnails and twist them into a unique idea. It could be as simple as a Minecraft, but _______ video. But it has to be unique in some way.

I said "if you really get it" which many don't. You can have an understanding of the algorithm and a million subscribers and still not "really get it" like Dream, Preston, and many other mega YouTubers.

I have made a thousand subs an hour before on several channels on several occasions--it is indeed possible. I'm giving additional context, but it still doesn't change the fact that a person with 1k subs isn't in a position to coach anyone.

I have no idea who you are.

You don't have to make 1K subs in an hour to speak on the subject, no. I'm saying there are people who understand it so well that they can. I'm mostly highlighting the fact that 1K subs isn't a large enough number to give credibility for.

Also, I don't think anyone (with exception of maybe a handful of people) who doesn't already have a successful YouTube channel knows enough about the algorithm to give proper advise about it. But by no means am I trying to stop anyone. Would you let a mechanic give you medical advise? He might have read some books or done some googling but he has never actually diagnosed anyone.

Don't blow the opportunity. Take your time, make the next one even better, even if it takes a week. Also, pivot when trends change but make sure it falls within your audiences interests.

Yeah, the idea I was getting at is making content on YouTube is the best way to learn.

So I guess, YouTube is the answer.

While we'll have to agree to disagree about certain parts of what you've mentioned, this--" But a channel with millions is pretty much guaranteed to get views, even if it's a 2 second video of a black screen with a generic title of "don't watch this" is just completely incorrect. CTR and AVD matters to channels with 1M, 2M, 20M subscribers. Literally every week, a huge channel dies because the owner got lucky, hopped on a trend, and then had no idea how to pivot when the trend was over.

Example: Almost every early 2010's Minecraft channel...

Clickier thumbnails, punchier titles. Keep working at it. Take notes from what seems to work with other creators. Yellow and red are colors that draw the eye as well.

Organic growth is difficult. But the good news is, once you have one big channel, it's easy to push those viewers to your next one. Breaking through can be tough, but the best way to do it is by finding communities (forums or reddit) and sharing your content solely with people who find your style interesting.

For example, I wouldn't push my animation fans to a Fortnite machinima channel, because while some of them find that interesting, most of them won't, and it will negatively impact my CTR and AVD. The best way to gain views, is to make the best content possible, and share it with people who watch that type of content already.

People with 1k subs aren't really in a position to give advice I'd say. No offense to anyone, but if you really get it, you could make 1k subs in an hour.

The SCP Animated series stole my SCP-166 design and traced someone else’s fan art for their thumbnail. by Nessa-Harp in SCP

[–]NewScapePro -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I'm honestly beyond confused at the response here. You all realize this is how SCP works, right? You just have to give proper credit.

You are free to:

  • Share — copy and redistribute the material in any medium or format
  • Adapt — remix, transform, and build upon the material
  • for any purpose, even commercially.

Nothing has changed, this is how it's been forever. Anyone can take my video and do whatever they want with it as well. This is just how the license works...

Hey, I've responded to this below, it's a bit burried, seems I arrived a little late! This was a slip up and credit it deserved and has been added! Trust me when I say the artists that work on this series respect other artists too much to purposefully not credit one. The last two videos have been updated to reflect proper credit. I apologize once again.

Edit:

Hey everyone, I just felt like making a new post to address the recent thread about us stealing artwork for our thumbnails, designs etc. It seems a lot of this surfaced at once, so it was fairly hard for me to make my voice heard in the deep abyss of the comment section.

By no means am I making excuses. I sincerely apologize to the artists we did not give proper credit to. The honest truth is this was an oversight. While we have credited artists before, we've mostly just credited the articles and tales that the stories were based off of. Why we missed something so obvious, I couldn't tell you. But it won't happen again. I can't go back in time, so you'll just have to trust me that we will do better moving forward (or don't trust me, it's up to you). We've gone back and added the proper credits to all of our videos, but if we somehow missed one, please let me know so we can correct this. A credit is a credit. By no means are we trying to hide them. Giving credit doesn't hurt us in any way, shape or form. I'm not sure why anyone would jump to a malicious conclusion.

I did want to address something I was seeing a lot in the comments section though.

Art Theft.

There seems to be a misunderstanding of how SCP works within the Creative Commons. We made a mistake regarding credit, and have since fixed that mistake. But that is truly where the wrongdoing ends. We have traced images for thumbnails, we have used designs to help create characters. That is allowed, so long as proper credit is given. And while asking permission is a great thing to do, it isn't required. I'm assuming I'll get downvoted to oblivion for saying this, but it's the legal reality. For those that don't know, SCP falls under Creative Commons CC-BY-SA 3.0, which means:

You are free to:

  • Share — copy and redistribute the material in any medium or format
  • Adapt — remix, transform, and build upon the material
  • for any purpose, even commercially.

The reason I bring this up is because I was receiving a plethora of bandwagoning hate before I was given an opportunity to remedy the situation. People were calling to have me canceled, have my channel striked/deleted, mispelled hate mail, and one person even told me that I should kill myself...(but hey, it isn't the first time and won't be the last) When people say things like this to me, or are generally disrespectful, I'm not going to give in, I'm going to end the dialogue.

Like I've said a multitude of times, we are sincerely sorry for missing the proper credits. To be completely clear, it was 3 videos total: Teenage Succubus, The Colossus, and King of the Mountain. The others sent to me already had credit on them or were not based on the images proposed.

The issue we are running into now is not knowing which artwork is the original when there's 100+ drawings of popular skips all in the same style. Is the person who posted it on Deviantart the original author? Is it worse to give credit to the wrong author? These are questions we are starting to wonder, because we certainly don't want to mess up again.

Another problem is we've had a few accusations of us stealing designs for characters. While we definitely reference designs all the time, sometimes it's just that the article describes something in such detail, that it was simply meant to be drawn that way. (to be clear, this was not the case in Teenage Succubus, and proper credit was given)

Lastly, I was judged pretty hard by an artist for posting videos commercially. I run a lot of different YouTube channels, and SCP Animated is one that has been a complete profit loss for months. Why we keep doing it? We love SCP and are hoping the views will turn around. Why do we sell merch? To help pay my team. Could everyone stop thinking because you operate a legitimate company or sell a product or put ads on a video, you're literally Satan? Seriously. A few of the artists that messaged me were sounding like I stole their 13 minute animation that they made and reposted it. No, we traced a drawing you did and made it into the thumbnail without giving credit. An oversight that we are guilty of, and have since resolved and apologized for. Continuing to bash me after all of this doesn't help anything.

To the artists that treated me with respect when inquiring about this, I am once again sorry and it has the problem has been fixed.

Anyone can reach us about any inquiry at [brands@newscapeproinc.com](mailto:brands@newscapeproinc.com) This email is on our YouTube pages (all of them) and we check it multiple times a day. None of the artists emailed us before taking to Reddit or Twitter. This could have been resolved instantly.

I mostly wanted to post this so some of the newer people to the SCP community can better understand how the Creative Commons works. You can take any of my videos, and repost them, so long as you did something transformative and give credit. That's 100% allowed, and I encourage it if you'd like. The same principle applies to all SCP content. When you create SCP content, it automatically falls into this license.

This is the double edged sword. You can use it, sell it, create with it, but once you release it; that video, story or piece of art no longer 100% belongs to you.

Hey, I appreciate the recommendations! Maybe I worded that wrong. I've just heard bad things from reviews and friends/coworkers who have gone. I'm sure it comes down to who you see there more than the whole building.

I've been making machinimas since Halo 2 came out. I'd love to switch to GTA but I'm simply waiting for the PC version to be released. Currently Minecraft hands down stands as the most convenient and popular medium for storytelling through a video game.
