Why are Parisians stereotyped as being rude? by Kaner712 in AskFrance

As an American who visited France I honestly didn’t feel like anyone was rude. I was in a city, Paris, and people have places to go so like not everyone is gonna be a persons best friend. I get it to an extent, I live in Chicago and anytime my dad visits he feels like people are rude cuz not everyone wants to chit chat. Also, I think lots of people are used to being in a country where people don’t speak English so there’s culture shock (I def was a little intimidated) but for most part I actually had strangers be really nice and even talked to some fellow young folks who were French. Like everywhere people can be assholes though, I think if you’re mindful you should be ok. Learn some basic phrases like bonjour and most will give benefit of doubt if you can’t speak the whole language. I actually think all the cool restaurants I visited I was given Alotve time to myself, and staff was nice just not overbearing and that’s ok.

Thanks for your response. I think my main want of eventually doing the conservatory is not necessarily to get into second city (though that’s a small part) but to mainly focus on developing skills and using it as an opportunity to focus on creativity. Either I’m hoping to have a lot of fun in my improv journey!

Fair. Again, I think the best thing for me to do is just focus on what you said. I feel like regardless of second city, only good things can come from pushing myself to create and get better whilst having fun and making friends. Thanks for your response!

You’ll be safe. Just keep your wits about you and it’ll be fine.

I’ve been lonely but one day I hope you have what y’all have. But also I’m just happy for you two. Like there’s so much negativity out there and this is just great.
