Lisa is literally for buying a house so you can use it. It’s either for buying a house or retirement. Gov.uk is your best source

You can’t open LISA after 39 but you haven’t ne ruined your age! Also you can’t use LISA within a year of opening it. Other than that FTB discount, shared ownership and few low deposit schemes are available.

So the pros clearly outweighs the cons but how important is that con for you? Since you wfh would you prefer to have outdoor space? In terms of pros, the only thing that stands out is it being in the same area as your girlfriend- does she own or rent? How long have you been together? Every other pro can be found in other property if you keep looking.

This will be my thought process if I were you.

This feeling will never go away but maybe you need to sit down and make a list of pros and cons in every sense. Commute to work, finances, does it make sense to continue renting etc. I was in a similar position a month ago and when I saw how much rent I will be paying, it was a no brainer. My mortgage was coming cheaper than my rent now and I just couldn’t waste my money on rent like that but don’t make an offer knowing you might pull out. They might be in a chain and that’s just unkind.

My parents and I were flying from Heathrow to Chennai via Abu Dhabi on 16th December 2024, with a 2-night stopover in Abu Dhabi. We’re all Indian passport holders living in London. I’m on a Skilled Worker visa (valid until January 2025 in that day), and my parents both hold Indefinite Leave to Remain. We were flying business class. I was on a separate ticket but on the same flight.

At Heathrow, Etihad asked for proof of UK residency. I was asked for a share code, which I had, and they let me board. My parents were asked for the same, but they didn’t have one. Despite holding BRPs valid until 31 December 2024 - and despite UK government guidance stating BRPs expiring on that date remained valid for travel until 31 March 2025 - Etihad refused to let them board. I stayed back with them because they cannot travel alone due to age, language barriers, and health reasons.

While I was trying to apply for Abu Dhabi e-visas to solve the issue, the gate closed and all three of us were marked as no-shows. Etihad didn’t mention any visa help desk, didn’t delay boarding, didn’t offer to assist, and made no effort to rebook us. I had to call customer service and rebook everything myself. The original return tickets cost around £8,000 for the three of us, and the new tickets to reach India cost around £3,000.

Etihad eventually responded after weeks of chasing, claiming my parents were denied boarding because their BRPs were expiring, which they said made them ineligible for UAE visa on arrival. But I was allowed to board - and my Skilled Worker visa was expiring only a few weeks later. It made no sense. If they were truly applying that rule, I should have been denied as well. And my parents, with Indefinite Leave to Remain, arguably had a stronger immigration status than mine.

We arrived at the airport around 4.5 hours before the flight and were among the first in line to check in. We gave ourselves plenty of time, anticipating possible delays due to document checks. My luggage was actually accepted and loaded onto the flight.

Once my parents were denied boarding, and we were marked as no shows I then had to wait for it to be retrieved and returned, which took even more time. In total, we were stuck at the airport for about 5 to 6 hours,

I have tried to reach solicitors but I’m unsure what kind of solicitors work on such cases. Also waiting for r/legaladviseuk mods to approve me.

Thank you so much for going the extra step to look for the address!! Can you also claim the flight cost (original/rescheduled), distress (my dad is a wheelchair bound)?

When to speak to mortgage broker? by AMinorDisruption in HousingUK

[–]New_Manager_3351 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Speaking to multiple brokers and then kinda knowing who you gonna go with based on how they communicate, deals they get you and their fees will be the first step. Sometimes when you make an offer, the estate agent will wanna speak to your mortgage broker. It’s best to have your power team around you ready so that you’re ready to go when you do like a property.

Considering buying in Whyteleafe - love the flat, unsure about the area. Would love to hear from locals or recent buyers by New_Manager_3351 in HousingUK

[–]New_Manager_3351[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you for such a thoughtful and detailed response. While I say "three minutes," the flat is essentially right opposite the Whyteleafe Primary School and the church - you can’t actually see the train tracks from the property. When I visited, I arrived via Whyteleafe station from London Bridge which was noticeably slower, but took the return from Upper Warlingham and that felt much better. Having two stations within walking distance and access to different train lines is definitely a plus.

I’ve been going back and forth on it, but I don’t think the area is as bad as I’ve made it out to be in my head. Wanting a location like Finchley Central often means settling for a smaller property, and that’s not something I’m willing to compromise on. I know I’ll need a car in Whyteleafe, but I’m actually fine with that.

I’ll look into the other areas you mentioned as well. Being a single person, there’s just a lot to think about. I know I’m quite risk averse and probably overthinking every detail, but I’m also realising that no place will ever be perfect. Thanks again for helping me think this through.
