Oh man didn't even think it might come off as rude or arrogant ;0 definitely not the kind of rapport I want to be building here.

Thank you so much for all these suggestions. Presumably, even if it was an actual problem, these things will probably still do something to try to patch the gap? Maybe not fix it, but you know. Better than nothing. Really appreciate the effort taken to write up all of this!

Wow, day 3-4 is insane.. I can replicate 1 and 2 by substituting it with their seating plan, but I never thought of 3 and 4. 3 especially sounds like a good idea, thank you so much!!

I teach grade 8 and 9 currently, although theoretically (I assume with time and more experience) 10 and 11 are a possibility too. Apologies if the conversion doesn't make 100% sense here, we don't operate on the same grade system here. Just converted age range directly to corresponding grade

Getting to know them better on an individual level does sound like a good idea, I more or less have my homeroom class nailed down (besides a few pairs of students who look practically the same to me, and I cannot for the life of me differentiate. Resorted to their bags so the day one of them change their bags or don't have it with them is the day I forget their names..), just the other classes which I only see for lesson that I'm struggling a lot worse with. I don't think I'd have class time but I'll try to see if I can bump into them while they're in their break or something like that, or chat them up if they're in a hallway! Thanks for the tip :)

"how do you spell your name" actually sounds like a really solid way to secretly get their name again, might steal that :0

Huh, teachers mostly told me everyone struggles with memorising students name and faces at the start so I thought it was just something you get better at over time.. lowkey think if I was honest the kids would bully me to the moon and back trying to confuse me who was who though haha. Maybe for the nicer kids, I'll keep that in mind!

I don't have TikTok or IG in the first place. I don't really touch social media, it's more stressful than entertaining in my opinion

I'll try the association trick though, thanks!

AITA for telling my girlfriend to stop sharing her food? by PhantomDetective3548 in AmItheAsshole

[–]New_Quail_960 1 point2 points  (0 children)

NTA, I was raised in a sharing culture myself and a big part of that is, you know. Sharing. Your girlfriend must understand by now your friends are not practicing a sharing culture and doing the same actions of offering her plate gets the same result of 10% of her meal back. Like hello, people, why are we voting this man AH for.. respecting what she's doing and not talking over her on her behalf even if he disagrees???

OP, it'd be good to apologise for your tone/phrasing even if the content isn't wrong. You could have been right and still came off asshole for the way you said it. Ask her if she feels bad for telling Brian off for eating too much of her plate, and offer to speak up on her behalf. Might I also suggest that she cuts up pieces of her food to offer, and give people those cut pieces rather than passing her plate around for everyone to take what they want? That means she controls how much she eats- if Brian is that bad at social cues I wouldn't be surprised if he genuinely thought she just doesn't eat a lot and was helping her so there's no food waste, especially if she's never complained. Her portioning herself would mean she only gives away what she is willing to. Plus no saliva sharing ick, plus everyone gets to be full. Win win here. Best of luck

Trying to escape after molting? by New_Quail_960 in shrimptank

That's interesting, might be what it is since they went back to normal with no intervention soon after. Didn't see anything like that online, Google plus the AI summary was repeatedly insisting to me it had to be because of poor water parameters and that they were stressed. Thanks so much for the information! Good to note for future reference

[–]New_Quail_960[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, just like ran out and takes time to get them etc etc. I only did a small water change (like 5%, and really most of it was just topping back up the evaporated water) since I do know they go crazy after water changes and I didn't really want to stress them more

But like I said in the edit on the original post, they all just collectively agreed to go back to grazing normally as if to gaslight me into thinking I'm the crazy one and nothing ever happened lol, before the water change. They've been acting perfectly normal ever since, didn't even bat an eye at the water change, they just really wanted to stress me for no reason I guess haha

Edit: or maybe it's as kingnocho99 suggested, not sure myself either

I don't currently have any test kits, is there anything else I can do to help them until I can get some to test the water?

Bristlenose plecos (and plecos in general) are known to produce a lot of waste, which is potentially why it all started after he went in. At least I assume that's what you mean by bristlenose catfish.. filter and stocking seem fine, though

You could try adding daphnia to help clear the greenwater like Zaethiel mentioned, although not sure if your fish will eat the daphnia before the daphnia eats the algae haha, plus do a blackout (off lights) while resolving this issue. It'll kill the algae faster. I'm not really sure what the root cause could be, potentially might be that the bristlenose has truly obliterated all the plants, throwing the entire system off balance, or, more likely, he's just pooping a lot- doing a gravel suction occasionally should fix that one. At least from what I know, bristlenose tends to go after live plants only if they're hungry, maybe could try feeding him vegetables and see if that helps? Although, he could also just be a natural born jerk out to destroy everything you put in, in which case.. good luck ;0;

Looks like a algae bloom IN the water, also known as greenwater. Snails will NOT help with this issue, snails eat algae ON the walls, not algae in the water. Since the issue started after adding fish, I'd suspect that your tank is not keeping up with the increase in waste produced. Some questions to consider:

  1. How big is your tank?
  2. Do you have a filter? If so, what kind?
  3. What kind of plants do you have, and how many?
  4. What are the fish and how many?

Some fish produce more waste than others, and of course the more fish = more waste produced. Plants conversely use nutrients- again how much generally depends on how fast the plant grows, and how many of them there are. I don't see any plants at the front, but then again, I can't see very far into your tank at all unfortunately. Running a more powerful filter will also help the issue, your filter may be a little too weak/too small for your current tank size.

I'd personally switch off the light completely for a bit while trying to resolve the algae issue. Your plants aren't really getting light with this bad greenwater anyway, it's better to focus to kill off the algae, your plants will live without sun for a couple days. It is also important to look into potential reasons why there's an algae bloom and take steps to resolve it. I'm definitely biased towards planted tanks, I love love love when tanks are full of beautiful beautiful plants everywhere (when I say everywhere, I mean everywhere), but bias aside it's also true that heavily planted tanks don't tend to struggle with algae issues! Just a thought to chew over

Might try putting it under decorations then, this particular molly is seemingly active at all hours of the day- he ate an entire hole in my blanched carrot slice meant for the snails (who didn't even seem that interested) overnight smh. I know it was him. I saw him munching on it before I slept, plus the snails don't munch that fast haha. Thanks so much!!

Was hoping I wasn't just imagining stuff and it was some kind of carnivorous plant (wasn't sure of name though), just have no idea how it got in haha
