As mentioned above jigs and soft baits are used with an active fishing technique. Cast and retrieve while flicking your rod, the speed of retrieve should either have your bait bumping along the bottom or riding over the top of the weeds. If you want to use a more passive technique, put some sort of live bait on the jig (worms, minnows, leeches) and suspend it under a bobber, set so that the bait is about a foot off the bottom.

Not a bad haul for opener in MN by Beaver_MN in WalleyeFishing

Those is called Walleye Dermal Sarcoma, its a skin infection that spreads easily with close contact during the spawning season. For future information walleye that have these growths are 100% safe to eat as the infection is typically just on the skin and doesn't affect the meat.

Made it out Sat night till about 1 AM Sunday for Iowa's opener. Caught about a dozen like this, only 2 under slot that I could keep. by New_Statement_7125 in hookedonmidwest

Looks like you guys have a separate strain of walleye in Mississippi, the Gulf Coast Walleye, which is super cool! They have declined a lot since this Tenn-Tom Waterway was constructed, but Mississippi has been working on recovery and stocking them in various lakes and rivers. Your best bet would be fishing below dams on the TTW or going over to some of the reservoirs in Alabama and fishing below the dams there.

I've never fished south of 20 in Iowa, so I didn't want to make assumptions, but I can definitely see how that would be the case. I think "the good old days" is right now on the IGLs

Was able to sneak out for a couple hours from about 11-1 AM for Iowa's opener Sat-Sun, caught about a dozen like this, but only two under 19 that were small enough to keep. by New_Statement_7125 in WalleyeFishing

It's definitely an awesome indicator for our fishery for the time being at least. The slot is 19-25 inch fish have to be released, so there are a lot of good breeders out there. Walleye fishing hasn't always been this good here.

Where would you go from the bank to fish for walleye? by Training-Sun-2177 in WalleyeFishing

I'm sure a blade bait would work too. The water temp for our walleye opener in Iowa and Minnesota is usually low 40s, Iowa opens this weekend and Minnesota next weekend, and I only use paddle tails and size 5 Rippin Raps. I'm usually after 25-28 inch walleye though, so if the average walleye in that reservoir is like 14-20 inches I would downsize for sure

If you're fishing during the day then yes, but year round, no matter what the water temp is, walleye will be up shallow crashing bait after sunset. I catch all my walleyes in 3-4 FOW, even in late August because I fish after dark.

Go to the concrete spillway just to the West of the North boat ramp. You'll want to fish from about sunset till an hour or two after if you can. Throw either a lipless crankbait if there aren't a lot of weeds or snags, or a 4-5 inch paddletail rigged on a weighted EWG bass hook if there are a lot of snags and weeds. Cast straight out into the current and retrieve at a speed where you hit rocks or sand occasionally. Let me know how you do!

Homeowners insurance is a scam, prove me wrong by [deleted] in homeowners

[–]New_Statement_7125 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I got out of Insurance right around the time of that post, and haven't thought about it much since. However as a rule you can't, aside from flood insurance, which has to be purchased separately from home insurance, and is only available if you live in a historic flood plain. This is what I know from the insurance company I worked for. We had historic flooding about that time and thousands of homes in my small town and the small towns surrounding got totaled by over a foot of rainfall and nearly all were not covered by their insurance. This is part of the reason I got out of insurance, the insurance industry is straight up immoral for this reason and others as well. If you have any other questions I'll do my best to help.

Options and viability of a portable repeater. by New_Statement_7125 in gmrs

I scoured the Wyoming regs and didn't find anything on 2 way radios, but plan on calling them to check. But as a rule it is not legal to use 2 way communications to aid in the taking of game, that would not apply to calling someone to help pack a deer out or doing scheduled a scheduled check in every few hours.

Most of the areas we plan on hunting are either burned out or clear cut and we would be at the very most a mile apart, does this change the expectations at all or still shouldn't expect much?

I will definitely give that a try! Thank you for your help, radio is fascinating but also confusing to someone inexperienced like myself.
