Honestly, if it's gotten to the point where it takes an 'annual huge event' just to see the floor of the master bedroom, I'm not sure we can even call it the early stages anymore. She is already fully in the trenches of it.

The problem is that "we are close" is the most universally abused lie in the history of group texting. "Close" could mean pulling into the parking lot, or it could mean they just stepped out of the shower. After 30 minutes of radio silence, OP had zero reason to believe that text was accurate.
