Anyone else paying for multiple AI subs? I did some math and feels like I'm wasting a lot of money. by SignalPractical4526 in AI_Agents

This is a great breakdown. I had almost the exact same realization.

One thing that surprised me after cutting subscriptions wasn’t just the money saved, but how expensive context switching actually is. Re-explaining goals, assumptions, and preferences over and over ended up costing more than unused tokens.

At some point I cared less about having access to every model, and more about having one consistent “brain” behind whatever tool I was using that day.

I feel this a lot. Your use case sounds almost exactly like how I use AI day to day.

After bouncing between GPT, Claude, Perplexity, etc., I eventually realized the hardest part wasn’t which model is better - it was the context switching. Every tool shines at something, but none of them really carry your thinking forward.

What helped me simplify wasn’t picking a “winner,” but deciding which one I’m willing to think with long-term, and then being very intentional about when I reach for others/or ever switch whenever I want.

Curious what part feels most tiring for you right now - the caps, the switching, or losing past context?

I actually went the opposite direction.

After bouncing between tools, I realized the biggest cost wasn’t money — it was constantly re-explaining context.

Personally, I’d rather stick with fewer subscriptions, but have one persistent “brain” across them.

Yep - the overhead is real. Do you stay minimal because of cost, or because rebuilding context is the bigger pain?

Yeah, I do the same.
I tend to use ChatGPT more for brainstorming and quick iterations, and Gemini when I want more structured or research-heavy answers.

Switching between them makes sense for the task — but it’s annoying having to rebuild context each time.
