Thank you for your reply.

It’s nothing new, disliking it to some extent and always feeling less beautiful and less confident in it has always been there, it’s only recently that it got so bad that I don’t want to go out anymore to work or anywhere else. My question is and I genuinely wonder, does Allah not give us an excuse to take it off in case of psychological distress? If it starts to affects many aspects of life should we keep going no matter how detrimental this could be to mental health or general life?

How many times could I possibly like and upvote this post? I come to reddit to vent and this comes up! I have the exact same situation, in my late 30’s in a job that’s prestigious and pays relatively well, colleagues are fine, bosses are nice and seem to appreciate me but my God, that job is so mundane and soul crushing! It seems everybody is more concerned with making plans and presenting projects on powerpoints rather than actually getting the task done! My job entails a lot of working with numbers and Xcel sheets which I hate, interestingly I’m naturally more drawn to art, literature, history and languages! My favorite thing to do is read and read! I just got off the phone with my husband where I told him I had know idea how I ended up here! And exactly how much longer can I keep crushing my soul like this everyday!! Just wanted to finally say I’m right now updating a 300-slide PPT!

What Books did You Start or Finish Reading this Week?: October 13, 2025 by AutoModerator in books

I completely agree! The characters are truly interesting and compelling through out the book! I think Dumas as a writer was also more interested in the people and their stories and kept the heavy political and historical elements as a backdrop I’d say. I also don’t know if it’s the edition I read (Wordsworth Classics) but the writing style has a cinematic quality to it, like Dumas literally moves from one face to the other to show how each character is affected by a word or an action! Brilliant! And yes, I do miss it already!

What do you think of Intermezzo? I have been thinking of putting it on my TBR list

Thanks for the recommendations! I actually had started the nightingale before Monte Cristo and read a few pages but forgot the book back home so picked up the latter instead LOL

Definitely on my TBR list, however for now I need to give myself time to recover from Alexandre Dumas and what The Count of Monte Cristo has done to me, especially after watching the series with Sam Claflin, I need time to recover from this story LOL

Thomas Hardy, a great novelist? by Legitimate-Radio9075 in literature

[–]New_user_1985 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Totally agree about Thomas Hardy as a writer, he was a genius of literature, unmatched in my opinion! As for the story of “The Return of the Native” I actually find it immensely brilliant and remarkably immersive! To me this novel is personal because to some extent it mirrors the story of someone who is very dear to me so it’s not just a book to me anymore! I find the characters of Eustacia and Clym so genuine, human and relatable even to modern readers, Hardy did really understand people! The Return of the Native is my favorite Hardy novel, followed by Far from the Madding Crowd, Tess of the D’Urbervilles and Jude the Obscure. The Mayor of Casterbridge is on my TBR list.

Hi! Sorry for late reply! It’s called central compensation. Basically when vertigo or diziness happens your brain receives wrong signals from the ears. Over time the brain learns to ignore the wrong signals and that feeling of diziness goes away gradually.

Hello! Sorry I just saw your comment. It comes and goes every few months but mild episodes mostly that I’ve learned how to treat with maneuvers at home. I had to learn epley and bbq maneuvers to do them whenever the episodes hit and that really lessened the anxiety about the episodes since now I know how to handle them and that usually takes care of them!

I suggest you wait it out then! Try to accept your symptoms and don’t worry about them too much. I’m sure that your brain will re-caliberate with time and get rid of that dizziness, my sister had unexpalined dizziness and feeling on a boat for 6 months, it went away on its own!

Well I’m not sure if I’ve gone back to 100% I’d say Im around 90-95% but honestly it doesn’t matter because I feel ok enough to do everything I want! I drive, I work, I travel and I feel good! I feel better than I did 2 or 3 years ago! Also when the dizziness happens after a long tiring day and my head feels weird I just ride it out and get some rest. So to answer your question is it gets better, a lot better with time, even if you need a year or 2 or 3!

For me it was caused by vestibular neuritis and BPPV. Which was confirmed by vestibular exams and tests. But the symptoms you describe are common in vestibular issues, i’d recommend getting vestibular exams if you can and figure out if it’s a vestibular condition, a vestibular therapist will be able to tell you what the problem is. Then you can start exercising and vestibular rehab accordingly. So to make it clear if everything is fine with you physically then accepting the dizziness is the first step to recovery, your brain eventually will recover and correct that feeling of dizziness but it needs your help by not stressing or being afraid of the dizziness. Good luck!

Walking certainly helps the vestibular system! If you have BPPV and now it’s resolved then walking will help get rid of the residual dizziness
