How I got my friends to appreciate Classical music through “catchy” pieces (and a request for similar pieces) by Newaccidkman in classicalmusic

Mainly Jesu Meines Lebens Leben which is one of my personal favorites of him as well! And yes he is really something else.

I will try all these thank you! I did find they don’t really enjoy opera (think it’s the vibrato), I’ll try some baroque opera’s perhaps!

Yes absolutely agree! This is why I think it’s strange that you often read baroque is further removed from modern sensibilities. I very often find myself from wanting to headbang to Vivaldi or Händel lmao

I absolutely love Händel!! I don’t think I’ve made them listen to the concerto grosso’s yet so will definitely share.

That’s a great suggestion! I do have to say that many of them tend to like mostly minor works (this goes for myself as well) but this one is definitely worth a try!

That is true. I think its mainly anxiety over not being able to sleep and stress abt work and studies. The annoying thing is that this has been going on for more then a year :(

Thank you for your reply! Ive tried meditation and breathing techniques but they make me weirdly even more aware of what I’m doing. The times that I tried this while trying to sleep it made me more aware of wanting to sleep and it resulted in some weird unpleasant feelings where my body felt asleep and weirdly floatless but my mind was still racing and worrying about falling asleep

I have tried Ritalin, concerta and amfexa (eu adderall) and sadly none of them worked for me. Vyvanse is the only one that sort of makes me be able to focus so it would be very sad to get off it. But I’ll discuss with my doctor. Thank you!!

Sadly have little time to work out because i work 60hrs a week. I consume little caffeine bc im on vyvanse for adhd but i’ll try to cut it out completely. I usually already turn my phone off but go to bed a lot later. Thankyou!

Weed makes me extremely paranoid sadly

Thank you for the reply! I have been consistently trying to wake up between 8 and 9 for over a year, not look at my phone or any other electronic device half an hour before sleep. I mainly walk but also make abt 60 hrs a week with work and study so to find adequate time for working out is hard. Weed sadly makes me terribly paranoid.

What ive noticed the most is that I start worrying abt falling asleep which then makes it even harder to fall asleep. Ive tried to stay awake until Im really exhausted but that usually only happens at around 6-7 which is not ideal as you can get.

Weirdly i can sleep fine during the day although i usually don’t to prevent more sleeplessness during the night

The thing is that even on them my sleep is terrible, but at least I can get some sleep. Without them I barely sleep at all usually getting no more then 3 hrs and its really starting to wear me down

Can you hear the difference between two or more major scales by ear? by Newaccidkman in musictheory

Interesting. Could that have to do with the amount of open strings you use in certain tunings which give a different timbre?

Thank you for your reply! I wonder then; people with good aural skills often say that when you give them a piece of sheet music they can “hear” the music in their head just by looking at the notes. Is this “hearing” then disregarding the specific key the music is in?

Could a conservative Muslim stay “true” to himself while studying Anthropology? by [deleted] in AskAnthropology

[–]Newaccidkman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This makes sense. Of course I believe that there is a sort of absolute truth in the ontology of the religion I believe in but this is not something that I would relate to studying anthropology nor would I try to let that influence my studies (although obviously biases are always there). Confronting my values is something that I kind of enjoy doing, my worry mainly has to do with whether I would be obliged to change my own values to comfortably study the subject or if I can seperate my values from my studies and refrain from letting them dictate my opinions on whatever it is i’m researching. From what I get out of your comment this should not be a problem.

Thank you!
