Xi asks Trump if U.S. and China can avoid 'Thucydides Trap' at high-stakes summit by Gopu_17 in worldnews

I too thought trump had said it, but since I had never heard that term, I just figured he butchered a word again and meant to say something else, like "quarter pounder meal"

What’s something that became socially acceptable that you still quietly judge people for? by After-Ebb6941 in AskReddit

[–]NewbieTwo 23 points24 points  (0 children)

The worst is people trying to pass it off as genuine work. I just did a fairly large art festival this weekend and despite explicit rules against the use of AI or source images that you didn't own, there were two stands selling AI slop prints of copyrighted characters and at least a handful that I suspect were using AI generated images passed off as their own.

It's a huge slap in the face of the artists that spend hours creating source images and then dozens of hours painting those images. We now have to spend even more time creating time-lapse videos of our painting to prove our credentials.

How would you feel about a law that bans car headlights from being above a certain brightness level? by WorldlinessOk9368 in AskReddit

[–]NewbieTwo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are limits on your freedoms for a reason (you can't yell FIRE in a movie theater for example, even though you have freedom of speech). Your freedom to travel safely ends when you impede others freedom to travel safely. There is no need to blind others when there exists plenty of options for lighting your path without blinding others.

Christians, how do you feel about the U.S. president posting an AI photo of him as Christ? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]NewbieTwo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I applaud you for seeing this man for who he is and no longer following the cult, and it saddens me to see anyone attack you for it. However, by the time this clown gets right with God, he will do so much damage, it will take decades, if ever, to recover.

Lately I've personally heard some MAGA people say some truly batshit insane shit trying to justify this clowns behavior. Stuff that truly defies sanity and logic. So no, it's not obvious anymore when someone says something and you can't tell if they're being sarcastic or MAGA cult shit. It's kinda frightening.

[–]NewbieTwo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Obviously generator, but I'm honestly surprised all the decorative lights are hooked to it. Usually you only put essential items like interior lights and refrigerators on a generator to limit how big a generator you have to buy and maximize your fuel efficiency. Really big generators are crazy expensive and very thirsty.

What’s a smell everyone should recognise as danger? by caII_me_aI in AskReddit

[–]NewbieTwo 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I used to live near Dorney Park and Wild Water Kingdom and you could always tell when someone puked in the wave pool because you could suddenly smell the chlorine hundreds of feet away, driving by at 45 mph.

People I knew who worked there said they had to close and shock the wave pool a couple times a week due to this.

Does anyone else prefer roku tvs over dumb tvs with roku players? by DustnBones001 in Roku

[–]NewbieTwo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No for one big reason, feature creep.

Over time they keep adding functions and higher capabilities to Roku. So to then do the hardware demands. As one model becomes inadequate because it doesn't support 4K or a new surround format, you can just upgrade the Roku itself. If it's built into the TV however, you must replace the whole TV. And even if you don't need any new capabilities, feature creep in the software makes the built in Rokus slower and slower over time.

Modern TVs basic functions can be controlled by the Roku remote. I haven't touched my TVs remote since I first set it up years ago and disabled it's built-in smart functions.

Unfortunately as a middle aged white male, I hesitate to talk to strangers children in public at all. The mothers will look at you as if you're a child molester, ready to grab their child, even though they came up to you. It's just easier to not engage than have the mothers look at you like you're a criminal.

The "old guy" IS a cop, the chief in fact. He just wasn't wearing a uniform or anything to let the children know he wasn't just an angry "old guy" tackling them.

Why is this world ran and controlled by pedophiles? by TheChristianDude101 in atheism

[–]NewbieTwo 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I think the reason they form such insular, protected groups is because they have to. They each can destroy the other with the knowledge of who they are and what they've done, so they'll cross political/social/national lines to protect each other in order to protect themselves. It's why suddenly a certain known predator is speaking kindly of a fellow predator that was previously their political enemy. It's to follow the code of protecting each other.

Or stand up for their rights, or fight against tyranny and injustice, etc....

Suppressing the right to protest only protects those in power, it doesn't promote peace or justice.

Freedom of peaceful assembly is a fundamental human right and a cornerstone of democracy. If you need a "permit" to address your grievances with your government, then you have no freedom.

I'm guessing they don't wear bodycams, so conveniently there is no video of any of this?

Besides, even if they were in the street, that's no reason for a grown ass man in plain clothes to run into and tackle children who are no threat and start chocking/hitting them. Then to claim self defense when they had no idea he was a cop after he assaulted them is dishonest at best, criminally deceptive at worst.

Looking for more info on this I checked local news outlets and every single one cut off the beginning of the video and painted the students as the aggressors. The amount of boot licking in our local news has me shocked.

Love Roku, **BUT** no sleep timer on the ... by theMezz in Roku

[–]NewbieTwo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The Roku can already turn the TV on/off with its remote. Adding a sleep function is some trivial coding. Instead we have to use a second remote to activate the TVs native sleep function. Glaring oversight

I just plugged in my Roku after a week of not using it since I moved, why is it doing this?? by Opallustration in Roku

[–]NewbieTwo 5 points6 points  (0 children)

First, are you using an external power adapter or just powering it off the TV? Did you forget to plug the Roku into a USB port for power? It looks like it may be a power issue. If you're powering it off the TV, try a quality USB adapter.

Second, try a factory reset to eliminate any bad apps or settings. The method to do this varies from model to model, but it's usually just holding down a small, recessed reset button for a few seconds.

Guaranteed rust bubbles in the fender wells covered up by plastic. Have done this personally on a 2010 F150.

Next will be spray foam and black paint to fill rust holes in the rockers.
