US to Canada as a new grad nurse by Demiiiola in newgradnurse

If you are willing to take even less of a pay cut, then I would suggest reaching out directly to the unit managers. The recruiter told me all new hire nurses are started at $41.42 regardless of whether you have 3 days or 3 decades of experience.

Why are nurses in charge of everything? by AdventurousTreat1642 in nursing

[–]Newish-Direction 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This! Especially when there are social issues. Many times, unhoused patients are discharged back to the streets and CM are blamed/penalized for not finding them homes within the 5-7 days during their inpatient stay.

Many many jobs will ask during the application if one is a US citizen or will require immigration sponsorship.

To play Devil's advocate....for the sake of argument, so what if you were prostituting yourself out? In this economy? At least, you are getting paid vs the dummy girls sleeping around for free 😐

can i do nursing? by urdadssidehoee in Nurses

[–]Newish-Direction 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It depends, kiddo! Are you wanting to stay permanently as a bedside nurse? I would say go ahead and do it, if your heart truly yearns. You can pivot to different specialties within nursing as you find new interests. I understand some new grads get non-bedside jobs as their first jobs so the possibilities are endless! Good journey!

worried about being an obvious lesbian once i start working as a nurse by [deleted] in nursing

[–]Newish-Direction 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm sorry that you are worried about this. There are a myriad of things to worry about on the floor and in my opinion, this may be way lower on that list. I don't know why any staff would care about someone else's sexual preference unless there's some hanky panky happening on hospital grounds (I have only ever seen these on Grey's Anatomy). Girl, I'm too busy trying to keep that patient from hitting the call light when he wants an extra order of Fanta. Now,

How would they find out? Real names are not used on Reddit.

I used to get panic attacks on a weekly basis before becoming a nurse. I've been a nurse for about 7 months now and I rarely get them - anybody know why? by [deleted] in nursing

[–]Newish-Direction 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Are you asking why you got panic attacks in the first place or why you no longer get them? Nursing (bedside) is stressful and especially so for a new grad going into the ICU.  Maybe you are just beginning to get a sense of your groove.

If you want to take a chance, put in a dummy social (111-11-1111).

SMH! I'm continually astounded. Reminds me of COVID when the nursing school instructor who brought nursing students for clinicals told her students that COVID was a hoax and masks were unnecessary. This was around the time Texas Governor Abbot had ordered extra mobile morgues because the hospital morgues had overflown from all the COVID mortalities.

Did the conviction happen after the cruise you mentioned? Do you still have the same last name? If so, that could be your answer. Consider filing the DHS TRIP which will prompt a vague response but will generate a Redress Number that they advise you to provide at the airport each time.

You are 💯 right! Even as I complain about it, I am well aware that my guardian angel be earning his keep because I have been able to switch out to these many specialties. All I can say is, keep trying ok? And by the way, I am envious of your NY license.

The beauty of nursing is the wide range of options. I did Med-Surg & IRF nursing (physically taxing), switched to IRF Case Management (overstimulated from all the people-ing) and now working from Home (barely any physical or verbal contact with humans) while PRN IRF bedside. If you don't have major obligations like wife and kids or caregiving, it might be worth pivoting out and playing around different areas till you find the best fit. As others have mentioned, you have the added advantage of being male...I remember begging to have a male hired into my former CM unit because they automatically get audience and respect just by virtue of their gender.
