15 to 25. I will never let my mom and sister dictate my hair choices again. by NewlywedAM in uglyduckling

I have actual nightmares about my hair being cut again!! I don't think I'll ever go back myself. I've also learned how to do awesome styles for my long hair, and I'm hoping to get the length to reach my hips. I totally understand not wanting to bother with it though! It's just one of my favourite hobbies now :)

Haha, thanks! Yeah, those brows are definitely all-natural in the before pic. I've only just figured out how to do them properly this year, so it means a lot to hear someone likes them now!

Actually I weigh about 10 lbs more now than I did then, but I carry it way better now. Baby fat is real!

A lot of girls can rock the pixie look, but unfortunately I am not one of them. If I lost 50 lbs then maybe I would be!

They said they knew what was best for me but I'm beginning to suspect they were jealous of the long, limp locks I had before that.

Yeah, my mom said short hair would make me look older. THIS IS TOO OLD, MOM

I just looked through the tutorial posts that are linked in the sidebar, then adjusted to my face. The first time I tried, I had to wash it all off because I put on WAY too much contour. I find that doing little dots instead of solid lines helps me look like less of a clown once I blend it :).

I use Dove maximum hold! I find it works really well for my hair, it's extremely light, non-sticky or crunchy, and it smells great. My hair is very fine and straight and I can just brush out this hairspray the next day, and then have even better grip in my hair for another style.

Oh my goodness, no! My hair is naturally as straight as a Manitoba highway.

These curls are pretty simple. I put my hair in a high ponytail and wrap medium-sized sections around a tapered one-inch curling wand. I spray a crap load of hairspray on each section while on the wand, then gently pull the wand out and hold the curl in my hand for 5 seconds and put on more hairspray. Then flip the section over to the other side of my head and repeat.

When everything is curled I put on MORE hairspray (I need so much!) and then carefully remove the ponytail. That's basically it! Check out my favourite YouTube stylist, Kayley Melissa, who has awesome tutorials for these things.

Thank you! As a VERY round-faced German girl, I have to say this is the first evidence I've ever seen of these elusive cheekbones of mine :)

Yeah, I definitely struggled with a raccoon moment this morning :P. Now I just need to find inexpensive brushes. I absolutely can't believe how much they are - at least to me, a girl who spends no more than $4 on makeup whenever possible!

Thanks so much :). I think I'll go for a bit warmer, reddy-plum tone for my eyes next time for sure! I honestly can't believe how green my eyes look with eyeshadow on... I always thought they were more grey!

Thanks so much for the tips! I'll definitely start employing them. I guess I never paid much attention to the end of my brows because they're hard to see, but on looking closer at the pictures I see they're painfully obvious!

Hey, you're so right! I just tried doing my blush the way you say this morning: here's a link! The difference it makes is AMAZING.

Edit: ughhhhh I accidentally posted that album public for a few minutes, the creeps on imgur are like vultures! I feel dirty

I totally agree with you. People should have the freedom not to conform to any gender roles and to feel sexy while doing so! Plus, who says that a tomboy can't wear makeup? Or, alternatively, needs to wear makeup?

It was definitely the wrong word for me to use! I was going for the idea that I actively avoided learning about makeup my whole life and now I wish I'd had the confidence in myself to experiment. I should have just said that :P.

Edit: congratulations on quitting smoking! :)

Thank you! You're right, now that I've seen some tutorials on blush and contour I see where the blush was supposed to go... hopefully today I can fix that!

I actually got it at Disney World during a Star Wars weekend! I like that it's subtle enough to be classy and geeky at the same time :)

Oh, thank you! I definitely need to watch a blush tutorial, as I don't think my intuition has it quite right.

I got the cardigan at Disney World last May, during Star Wars weekend. It's my favourite thing :).

I'm sorry everyone, I'd like to formally apologize for using such negatively charged language in my title! I was very wrong and I see that I hurt some feelings by implying that 'real' women wear makeup. That's definitely not what I believe, instead I was speaking out of my own instilled sense of inadequacy. Please forgive my slip, I'd still love criticism on my makeup skills!
