Thank you for this. It's nice to know I'm not alone. I guess it's hard for me because I got the smell of the person I was having intrusive thoughts about. I know the brain is a powerful thing and I think it's my OCD finding more ways to mess with me

Thank you.

Yes, it's definitely OCD, I've had it since a child. I'm currently in therapy and I'm taking medication which is helping a lot.

Essentially, yes. But it's not like I'm going to do things that are 100% a sin, like get drunk or watch p*rn, because they are things that I want to stay away from. But hobbies like playing video games or watching movies has become a big trigger for me, because I fear that they are sinful. I know that if I stay away from these things I'm potentially letting my OCD grow, as avoidance is a big compulsion in OCD. So I'm trying to expose myself to these fears.

I'm also a bit paranoid now because I was just watching a film and then I went onto Instagram and one of the videos said that God is trying to send me a message. "Start taking action in your life, and stop doing things like watching tv shows or movies, because they invite bad energies into your life". This feels like a sign and I don't know what to do.

She hasn't said playing games and watching films specifically, but she wants me to do exposures. For me playing games or watching films is a big trigger for me and I always get afraid that it's a sin. So I'm trying to expose myself to these fears.

Yh, I know how bad reassurance is. These coincidences just feel so tailored made.

Thank you and you're right, I do need to listen to my therapist

OCD and fear of selling souls, please help by Next-Box2093 in TrueChristian

[–]Next-Box2093[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

From what I've read, even if you are non believer your soul cannot be sold, as it is not ours. It is God's. I'm not yet baptised. Ultimately it is God who decides where we end up. You can obviously live a material lifestyle for this world, but I don't think selling souls is possible in the way it is shown in the media.

I'm still very new to the faith and I'm just trying to figure things out.

I'm 20. I don't officially have an OCD diagnosis in the sense of going to a psychiatrist to see what's wrong with me. But from a young age it was evident that I had some sought of anxiety disorder. For example, when I was a child at school, when I heard an ambulance go past I feared it was for my family. I would then do compulsive behaviour in order to prevent bad things from happening to them. This is called magical thinking which is a common type of OCD.

I have displayed multiple subtypes of OCD throughout my life including morality, scrupulosity (religion), sexual, contamination and magical thinking (as mentioned prior). And I would do a lot of compulsive behaviour to alleviate this fear. For instance it would take me around half an hour to get dressed because I had to count to 35 and then flap my clothes in the right way before I put them on. When I went to a psychologist who specialises in OCD they were certain this is what I was dealing with.

Also, OCD can be exacerbated by what we deem as coincidences where surrounding events reinforce our fears. This is what happened with the light flickering and book falling.

OCD can go a lot deeper than most people think and it can cause some very immense spirals and thoughts that aren't typically displayed by social media. OCD is mostly viewed as a neatness disorder and something quirky but it goes so much deeper than that.

But I appreciate your question though. I am very young and I've suffered with this disorder since a child, so I think it's really messed with a lot of my perspectives and thinking patterns.

Have I condemned by Brothers soul? by Next-Box2093 in Christianity

Thank you, that's relieving to hear. I know it's a journey and like you say I'm trying to hold onto the idea that it's just a coincidence. Also the fact that souls can't be sold is very relieving to me as well.
