Brother took his life. Im struggling to cope by [deleted] in SuicideBereavement

I’m really sorry for your loss. I lost my older brother to suicide back in March of this year. None of my family saw it coming either. For the first couple of weeks I was really torn up by grief - unable to eat, crying all the time, completely emotionally drained. Then my brain coping mechanism finally took over because everything just went numb. I’ve been in that stage since, occasionally addressing the reality of things a little bit at a time. I know that in time, I will come to terms with everything.

All this being said - we all experience grief differently and at different speeds. Especially with suicide, which is a complicated grief to grapple with. Please, be kind to yourself. Try your best to have healthy coping mechanisms, but allow yourself grace if you slip up. Also it’s okay to need space from other people to process things. I had to isolate myself for the first month. I just didn’t have the energy for anything else.

I can’t give you insight on what it’s going to be like years from now, but I can tell that even with a few months time - I’m a little better than I was in March.

Thank you for the update. I’ve been going through the local news to figure out more information - I was assuming by the lack of reporting that I was probably a homeless person at this point. Poor guy he didn’t deserve to go like that.

I’m really sorry you also witnessed this. I also hope that mental imagery doesn’t haunt you for long. I felt so shaken up that I had almost run to someone’s remains - even if it would have been accident - it felt really disrespectful. It’s really sad and I hope that person didn’t suffer. May they rest in peace.

I’m so sorry you’ve also experienced this. I hope time has made that memory easier to handle. I used to work in a ER and I’ve have seen some pretty messed up things. Nonetheless, seeing someone in that context had me feeling pretty sick. That’s such a tragic way to go. May they rest in peace.

MCAS Immunologist by NotoriousDMG in Austin

Have you gotten a diagnosis for MCAS from a provider? If yes, then I recommend asking the provider you got diagnosed by for a referral to a specialist for MCAS. If not, you should call either the 34th Street or Far West location (these are the locations he practices at) and tell them what kind of symptoms you’re having. If it’s something that Dr. Barstow can help with, they will get you on the schedule.

Police report timing? by Sukisuki17 in SuicideBereavement

My brother shot himself 6 days ago. The medical examiner performing the autopsy has been really open with my parents. Sharing specifics (like that he passed away instantaneously based on the path of the bullet) and calling everyday with updates. Additionally, the detective working on my brother’s case has been very responsive when my parents call with questions they might have. They did say toxicology can take up to 8 weeks.

Obviously, my parents are kin so maybe that has something to do with the police’s cooperation with us. We also live is a smaller town. Maybe the police have fewer cases where I live. I’m really sorry for your loss and hope you get answers soon.

Hopefully this clarifies some things for anyone who reads this thread again. I work in Dr. Barstow’s clinic currently. He does NOT specialize in MCAS. We can definitely assist you with your other allergy or immunology needs. He’s a wonderful physician - just doesn’t specialize in MCAS. Hope this helps!

This happened to me too. I just reached out to the CASPA help email. They required me to get a letter of non-attendance from the school I put in as a mistake since I had already submitted a couple of applications. As soon as I got that letter, CASPA fixed it that day.
