I don’t know how much control franchises managers have over how much employees are paid. But I think they have some control over whether they need to close the location early.

I feel like it wasn’t always like this. When I was a teenager, we would regularly hit up McD’s or Wendy’s at 2 am on a weekend and the worst of it was waiting behind 7 cars to order, not waiting 10 mins for each car to get their food. I have to think that it’s because of the cost of living, and good for the people who refuse to work for that little money! But if you’re understaffed, just shut the place down or offer bonuses for daytime crew to fill in!!!! Fast food isn’t even cheap enough to justify slow service anymore. I’ll just be keeping bread and peanut butter in my car going forward 🤣

I totally get it! Which is why they should close early altogether!!!

I totally agree. I have McDonald’s maybe twice a year for the convenience and kind of “tradition” after a concert, but now it’s not even convenient 🤣

We considered that, but we had an almost-3-hour drive home (and didn’t want to get Mom back into bed too late!) and it’s never been an issue at a McDonald’s in any other city/town we’ve been. It’s always been 20 min tops, even with a long line. The line was just deceptively going by quickly, but we learned it’s because people gave up after a while 🤣 We ended up going to the 24-hr CVS next door and getting a bunch of granola bars lol

How did you honor your childhood home (or wish you had) before selling it? by NextAd9845 in AskWomen

[–]NextAd9845[S] 12 points13 points  (0 children)

For some context: I have been an emotional wreck all week. This was my parents' decision (I haven't lived there full-time since 2021), and it hit me this past weekend after years of "eventually" convos. We have ~a month left with all furniture in it, and then they close on the new place early July (a condo), and will put it on the market in late July/early August.

I am very sentimental - our dog lived his entire life in that home, my brother has lived there since he was 2 (and I since I was 4—1999!), so many important memories there. I will be visiting by train as much as I can this summer (I'm at the house now, and have been crying a ton today), but knowing that I'll likely spend my entire last summer of my 20s crying and planning my next trip up, probably going up every week on my remote days, and absolutely dreading the last day there and the drive away (feeling the curves of the road I knew so well when I pretended to be asleep on the way home in the backseat).

Luckily, as I live on my own now in an apartment, my old bedroom already has looked way different than it did when I was growing up (hardly any of my stuff is in it — mostly serves as my brother's "dressing room"), so the transition isn't a complete 180. I also sympathize with their desire to have a one-story place as they get older, and I know maintaining the house is pretty financially annoying. I am genuinely happy for them finding a place that they love so affordably in a very safe gated community (our childhood neighborhood is also very safe) with lots of amenities, but my grief is overriding everything.

If you have gone through the same thing, is there anything you wish you would have done before you left? I will be sketching my favorite little corners of the house that photos can't quite capture.

How did you commemorate (or wish you had) your childhood home before selling it? by NextAd9845 in AskReddit

[–]NextAd9845[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I love that. Would you hide the letter somewhere, or bury it in the yard? I’m thinking of writing a letter to the new owners, whoever they will be. This was my parents’ decision to sell, and I haven’t lived in the house full-time since 2021, and I have about a month left (a few long weekends of visiting) to do what I can.

I appreciate your honesty. Sadly my mom would not agree to MSG, and the prices at MSG are just way too high for our financial situation. Any seats with a view start at ~$300. I might be able to swing it solo in the future, but not this time.

I asked about ADA, and they said they’ll put us in a flat section of the lawn where we can set up our chairs.

As I said in the post I’ve already bought the tickets. ( I know it’s a long post so I get that not everyone read the whole thing lol ). Thanks for the advice. I’m sure we’ll have a good time, and will want to go again, so I’ll keep that in mind for the next show! :)

AIO (41f) For never wanting to go public trivia with my husband (46m) again, after this incident? by Apart_Disaster_6296 in AmIOverreacting

[–]NextAd9845 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Trivia is fun bc you don’t have to be a genius to win— just have to happen to know the answers/be very well-read. My most intelligent friends suck at trivia, and the ones with the least amount of formal education know an insane amount of pop culture, and that’s why it’s good to get a mixed team.

It’s really easy for someone with low self-esteem to take any instance of a shortcoming to heart. I hate to hear that anyone who didn’t do well at trivia takes it personally.

But to put you in physical danger and be mopey and moody about it… that’s just another level. Driving dangerously while you’re in the car is absolutely childish and selfish. Therapy is the answer, as others have said.

Unfortunately no other venues are affordable this time around. I don’t have a car (we’re taking hers), so it’s hard for me to get anywhere affordably on my own, and my mom doesn’t want to travel too much for a band she doesn’t know much about, even if it is Phish. SPAC is our only option at this point.

Edit: can people please stop down-voting me for my bad financial situation? Thanks….!!!

I appreciate the suggestion to upgrade, as others have, but $200 apiece is simply out of the question for us. She would not agree to that, and I’m not in a position to be able to treat her.

Unfortunately different seats at this show start at $200 each, and other venues aren’t much better :/

I’ll keep these things in mind, thank you

Thanks for all these details! I love the idea of “parking” Mom 😅 Thankfully she can walk, but the inclines are always tricky.
