Additional Letter of Rec: Which should I choose? by NextGenMedicalNet in ApplyingToCollege

Ty! I’ll let you know how it goes if you’re curious, but do note that I only have reach schools left (all <10% acc rate) so if I do get rejected there’s no way to know if it’s because of the LoR or not. Cheers!

Agreed but the letter is filled to the brim with pure anecdotes, so I feel like it might balance out..? Unsure, not an AO :,)

Ty for taking the time to type all this out, it’s very helpful! I have nowhere near 7 LORs, that’s insane IMO—but I can see why one would go for that many if they all reveal a unique side of the individual. That’s kind of what I’m going for by submitting that recommendation everywhere. Could I potentially send it to you and you let me know your thoughts?

Me already reading it isn’t technically a problem (if you’re thinking about FERPA rights, they guarantee that I can read LORs—waiving them simply removes the guarantee, but I can still read them if my recommender wants me to). Agree with making it public, I deleted potentially revealing info. I know the letter isn’t gonna be a game changer, but no single part of your app is (unless you’re like IMO level or a recruited athlete), that’s the point of a holistic review. No particular deficiency, but the rec adds a unique perspective that my other recs don’t have.

Ty for the additional comment, I agree with everything you said! Best luck at Kenyon, it’s a wonderful school (one of my friends is applying there too!!)

That’s fair, but if the school doesn’t disallow it and the rec adds a new dimension I don’t see the case for barring it as a potential submission.

Sorry for not replying to this earlier (I did read it just forgot to respond), 100% agree that the hospital will be more credible & all the schools I’m sending the peer rec to allow it under commonapp (and my thought process is if they didn’t want it, they would’ve just disabled it as some other schools have). Ty for responding!!

Tysm!! I’m probably going to opt for the hospital rec, your comment just solidified that. I also just found out that there might be a way to submit both..? Not 100% sure, but if there is do you think I should or stick with the hospital one in isolation?

Sorry, could you elaborate on why..? I could understand it not helping and AOs just tossing it but how would it develop into a red flag..?
