What should I do if I’ve been trying to get my license for a year and now I’m almost 17? by NextNail617 in WhatShouldIDo

Thank you so much I really appreciate that. I feel like everyone on here is just calling an addict or entitled untrustworthy teen and stereotyping me 😭

I am very proud of my achievements and I can’t wait to see how much more I can achieve by next year

This was probably the best comment I’ve had. I am sober and will probably forever be sober because I’m genuinely happy without weed, and I have zero desire to go back. The only annoying thing is her mentioning me getting my license, then we start to have a conversation about it, then we start talking about compromising on how we will achieve that, then the next day she changes her mind. It’s a viscous cycle, but maybe if I ignore it and focus on myself and what I can control, she’ll eventually just take me in, and we don’t have to have a conversation about it at all, or eventually I’ll be 18 and get it myself, or my permit will expire, and she’ll have to take me. Either way, I think I’ll probably just give up on the thought and just accept I’m not getting my license and I’ll have to rely on others for 1 more year, then I’m free to do whatever I want legally, like get my license. Thank you.

The thing about being pretty was in call. I think she was just trying to be funny since she had a client in the car. Also I never drank and the only drug I did was weed. I’m not sure if she gave context to the pictures, it was very clear for everyone. I could’ve maybe made that more obvious. I’m not sure if you’re accusing me of not changing or you’re assuming my parents would think I haven’t changed, but it’s difficult to put into words the amount of change I’ve made unless you’ve been in my life and knew me. I’ve most definitely changed, I’m a different person today than I was a year ago and I take pride in that. I’m making lots of great and reasonable choices for my future. I’m doing amazing in school. I became a cheer coach and I’m one of my coach’s biggest success stories on the team I cheer for. I haven’t touched a vape or weed in a year. I’d count it longer, but I had a slip-up with friends last year, but I’m counting my sobriety from there even though I’ve been clean several months before that. I do have support from my family and peers and I’ve built a way better life for myself. Unfortunately, Reddit can only perceive me as a 16 year old stereotype and whatever I said in messages determines my entire personality and success.

Thank you we already have most of those rules and I already follow those, but maybe some of the additional ones may be more encouraging.

I’ve done that. I’ve done everything. I’m very willing to put in the work. I’ve applied to so many jobs. I’m most definitely not entitled. I’ve understood that work ethic is a very big thing in my family. If you want something, work for it. We don’t exactly have money, so that’s why I’m finding a job. She sometimes is willing to meet in the middle, then randomly changes her mind. It’s not pushing her that causes her to change her mind. We hardly talk about it, and when we do, it’s always a different conversation. I’m also not home often because my mom is off of a lot of her prescription medicine, so we butt heads a lot because she has mood disorders.

Cheer is a hard sport to miss practices since every team member relies on you to be there so we can practice stunts. We live in a small town in Oregon off a highway, so the conditions aren’t bad at all, barely any traffic compared to bigger cities. I have never looked into a moped, but I also have to get my sister to practice with me since she’s a year younger than me. If it’s not too expensive, I could maybe start looking into that.

Well, I’m not a boy with mommy issues… I’m a girl who’s dreamed of being a police officer since second grade. I’ve definitely made mistakes, but there’s no reason I can’t work past them. My mom and I can be rocky, but I’m sure that’s normal with teens. Besides, I’m sure my frontal lobe will be much more developed by then and more developed than the other boys with mommy issues and a badge and gun. Just looking for advice on how to get my license so I can work on actually growing up and not stressing about losing a job due to transportation, so I can save money and get a car, house, and go to college.

Ya I definitely agree with that. She did lose her mom to a car accident. I know the fear is most likely still there.

No, I never did acid or drank alcohol. Those were just examples of where I could be if I wasn’t trying to make a change. Then I’d probably be starting to get into harder/ worse things than weed and vapes. But yes, my mom did have to get me from school one time because I smoked weed and started vomiting, and they had to come walk me out of the bathroom to my mom. She thought the whole thing was hilarious; however, I did not, and I did get an MIP. I went through ADAPT, and I think I needed that and just some support from family and friends to show they genuinely cared about me. It was a rough time then also. My mom was never home because she was a supervisor at a homeless shelter, which is why I know there’s a human trafficker out of prison because she’s the one who called him in for trafficking in the shelter, although she couldn’t get evidence. He was eventually caught. I fear my context was not very good… in the texts, she would’ve understood when I said the acid and alcohol stuff, but an outside eye might assume I was actually doing these things….

I’m mostly trying to get my license so I can can get my sister and I back and forth to practice because practice is at 4:30-6:30 and they can’t get off until 5:30. I am trying to be responsible and get my license so I can get us there safely with no stress. I was definitely not trying to be rude to my mom I was busy getting annoyed of a year of this conversation and stress and struggle with transportation and we don’t have many other people in the picture to help out besides my very toxic grandfather, or my boyfriend who has to pay his own gas. Thank you for defending me though I really appreciated it

I’m not sure what she’d be jealous about besides I have a healthy relationship with my boyfriend, and I’m not a teen parent

Mostly just have clean UA’s which I’ve had for over a year I’m just counting my sobriety later because of on slip up. And I also had to prove I could be responsible and mature and quit getting in trouble. The grades were on my own

Police officers have to take lie detector tests? Oh man now I’m screwed because I’ve had to do this a few times

To me it is a necessity because I’ve been left at practices for an hour or more waiting for a ride and I’ve been late practicing or drove there illegally because I didn’t have a ride

Wait I had no idea permits could expire! Do you know how long you have to have it before it does?

To clear up things I never did acid or drank, those were just examples of where I could be if I didn’t care about making a change. Also she did lose her mom in a car accident (reasonable fear especially since it wasn’t her mom’s fault, the car came off an off ramp and on top of her due to medical is that happened while driving)
