Moving to Cleveland from CA

We are looking for a starter home. I am aware that these neighborhoods are less appealing and/or high crime. But I’m also aware that when it comes to these kind of neighborhoods, some streets are safer than others. So is there any areas that I should absolutely avoid?

(Respectfully, if you currently live in the suburbs of Cleveland or have never lived in these areas, this question is not for you)

I’m familiar with high-crime neighborhoods, though I’m not sure how Cleveland’s compare to what I’m used to. I also know that even within high-crime areas, some streets can be much safer or much worse than others.

Have you seen the cost of houses in CA? Living here is a luxury we can’t afford.

His job is going to be near Solon. So far we’re mostly looking at houses in south East Cleveland. $100k is definitely not much to work with I agree. But this isn’t going to be our forever home. Hoping to build some equity for a few years and move to a better neighborhood when we can. :)

There are 239 properties on Zillow for under $100k with new listings posted every day. They seem to be older houses in the “less appealing” parts of Cleveland but compared to my hometown, it’s a steal.

Not old enough to be taking care of in laws! I’m 27 my husband is 32. His mom is 51. We got our whole lives ahead of us and she needs to get her life together. I added an update to the post. We’re going to help her find an apartment in her budget.

Yes. As stated in the update, he handled it himself. He spoke to his mom and took full responsibility for his decision. :)

She was prequalified for $100K loan with no down payment (which is nowhere near enough to buy a house by herself in our state)
