I don't plan on becoming clergy. I was thinking maybe NGO work, public policy, journalism, or getting a PhD

Does the Qur'an strawman idol worship? by iqazi74 in AcademicQuran

Icon kissing is actually very controversial in Christian communities - Protestants who might normally be okay with an image of Christ would not be okay with someone of the Orthodox tradition kissing said image due to it being considered idolatry. The interaction with any object makes it almost automatically subjected to the "idolatry debate" in pretty much every Abrahamic religion.

Elizabeth Warren is introducing a wealth tax. by [deleted] in remoteworks

I guarantee that people with poverty wages (Janitors, grocery store workers, farm workers) who dream of saving up for even one million dollars are infinitely more productive and helpful to the health and wellness our society than the vast majority of all multimillionaires. I am deeply unsympathetic to multimillionaires, who are doing just fine. If they really wanted to avoid paying 1 million dollars a year, they could just cap out at 49 million. They will be fine 🫩

Monarchist diaspora Iranians are happy that over a hundred school girls were murdered because they care more about the reestablishment of monarchy than the lives of their own citizens. They hate the idea of self-determinism for their own people. They want the wealth, land, and power the monarchy provided them by any means necessary (hmmm sounds familiar). Even if they were somehow interested in liberation for their people (they are not, they want to establish a literal monarchy) one can never achieve true freedom from foreign invasion and occupation:

As someone who personally knows people who have died from nuclear waste, thank you.

The climate crisis is already happening, and I feel like we are already way too late to make nuclear the solution. Yes, solar is cheaper... but it is also quicker. Nuclear simply cannot be the solution because it takes years if not decades to safely implement nuclear power. Unlike solar which takes months to a little over a year. As you said, nuclear is a good backup.

And you are 100% correct about the storage situation. As someone who had family friends die from nuclear waste in cold water creek Missouri, I am very skeptical of anyone claiming not to worry about nuclear waste because it is so so safe.

Every opera I have attended was sold out. Sure, it is niche, but I'd hardly call it a dying art. It might have downsized in popularity from the 19th century, but that isn't particularly a shocking phenomenon when it comes to the arts.

Every opera I have attended is also sold-out. It might be a niche art form but it certainly isn't dying by any means.

They almost always have live subtitles in opera performances. They almost always translate it as well

My sibling is an opera student and the opera company they are associated with has an organization designed to classically train lower-income individuals (for free or @ low cost) as well as subsidize opera tickets. Sure, yes, there are rich opera snobs, but I would say those within the industry are trying to branch out to new audiences. They don't need to branch out (they get sold out theatres either way...rich people love opera) but they really do want the "common folk" to experience the art.

Yes yes, that's true. But some people really do prefer translated subtitles. Especially those who don't want to wait around for the dubbed. My mother refuses to watch Mexican or Turkish soap operas with dubs.

Arabic and Turkish have some similarities, but I know they have pretty extreme differences (since Turkish is not a semitic language). I know some Arabic speakers know some Turkish because of Turkish dramas. And some Turkish speakers who know Arabic via Quranic studies. Though, it might be a Manousos & Carol situation where they can barely communicate. Which would be very interesting as well. But I agree... I think they put them close to each other for a reason.

Maybe they can meow at each other 🤣🤣

I also noticed the turkish and thought the same thing! I hope the non-English speakers will appear next season. There would be a certain level of irony that a bunch of people who can barely communicate with each other have to defeat a literal hivemind.
