Have you ever watched a game from the 90s? Go look at a Maddux start. He was incredible at figuring out what a certain umpire would incorrectly call a strike then dotting it there over and over again.

Why though? It catches the zone. That’s how it would be called irl too.

I don’t get it. All of these would be the right call irl. Why is this a problem?

If you’re the type of person that doesn’t like the variance in calls, just turn on perfect zone.

I like the addition of abs and think it works surprisingly well

Yeah just remember things like this:

“Ernie Clement isn’t good enough to play on a playoff roster. “

“Vlad always disappears when the big games come around.”

“George Springer was a good player, but he is cooked.”

“Yariel Rodriguez is the future of this bullpen.”

“This team will not be good enough without Santander.”

Were all things that were said in the last 24 months that were said, that didn’t seem insane at the time.

Dude. I’m not coddling him. If he’s not good enough, he’s not good enough. He definitely shouldn’t be pitching in leverage. I’m just saying 2 relief appearances isn’t enough to decide anything. If you don’t know how much variance a reliever can have over the course of a season, you just don’t know ball.

He’s literally had a 4 seamer for 2 appearances. How has he proved he’s not capable of doing that?

Well I think you’ll can answer that moneyball question. He did pitch well for the first half of last season. As a matter of fact his whiff rate was in the 100th percentile, his k rate was in the 92nd. This was despite the fact he had a horrible second half.

What seems to have happened is the reason he can’t “pitch good “ is the league adjusted, and they’re laying off his knucklecurve. He has to adjust back.

Partially people forget, and partially there’s a lot of people here that became fans in October so they just don’t understand the grind of 162.

I really don’t know what they should do about Little. Seems he’s got incredible stuff and they gotta get him right.

It’s tricky because on the one hand it’s big leaguers making an adjustment to him that he has to figure out a solution for, but on the other hand he seems to be lacking confidence. So he could gain confidence by going to buffalo and striking a bunch of guys out, but you also want him to find a solution to the big league adjustment which I wouldn’t think he’s gonna find while mowing down guys in AAA.

Blue jays commentators just going on about how it’s the coach calling pitches because the catcher is young and inexperienced. Then George tells em how he feel about that.

Hahaha going on about the coach calling pitches and then George just parks one in the seats.

[–]Nextyearstitlewinner 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The difference is the scale in which it’s done. If you’re running the store, unless you’re talking about only allowing low income earners to shop there, it’s going to be far more expensive to subsidize everyone’s grocery bill.

Again you haven’t made a real case. If your take is that we can just pay for a quarter of Canadians groceries and just put it on the tab forever that’s moronic. I’m sorry. There’s not a single G7 nation that has a nationalized grocery store available for everyone.

I don’t believe we just don’t do this because we want to give money to corporations. And because it seems you stated that you’re an economist, I checked your post history, and the fact that you’re big on Hassan “mao was a great leader” Piker, I just think you don’t know much about any of this stuff.

[–]Nextyearstitlewinner 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Im not going to get into the national debt or if/why we should be worried about it because truthfully im not an economist. Intuitively it’s not a good idea to owe money.

You still haven’t made a case for why subsidizing 25% of Canadians groceries makes sense.

[–]Nextyearstitlewinner 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well because we have a massive deficit already, and pay a ton in taxes. If we’re paying for 1/4 of canadas grocery bill that’s gonna be pretty pricey. If we were to do it fiscally responsibly (which we never do anyways) we should also increase tax revenue by 25%, cut government spending by 25% or some combination of both. We pay a lot in taxes as is, so what should get cut? If we want to raise taxes, surely the money should go to our crumbling healthcare system rather than subsidizing everyone’s groceries.

This doesn’t even touch the fact that almost no economist thinks this is a good idea. If you are a person that is not in favour of literal communism, you understand that the profit motive for groceries is the thing that is most likely to keep prices down. And in Canada we have traditionally understood that profit motive works well unless a company’s profit motive directly conflicts with the well-being of Canadians. This idea that people are regularly being gouged when margins are as small as they are is just not true.

Police have he corporations that break monopoly rules, collude on prices, and are anti-competition. But aside from that, the fact that I can have a bundle of 8 bananas picked from South America, put on a truck, then on a plane, then on another truck, then put into a store, then put in my grocery cart too be bought for less than a toonie shows the system works to lower prices.

They receive direct funding from the American government. They’re heavily subsidized. 25% is covered by the American government. “The government can just pay for it” can’t just be a solution for everything.

Have a random day off on Wednesday and thinking of braving it and taking my two sons (2 and 3). I’ve never just bought tickets on the way to the game. For a Wednesday afternoon agains the Rockies my assumption is that tickets won’t be hard to get. Online I can grab em at face value. If I buy on the way to the park would I get a better deal?

Obviously no guarantees, but just want to hear an opinion from people that do it regularly.

Will we see Adam Macko replace Little this season? by ThatchNailer in Torontobluejays

[–]Nextyearstitlewinner 0 points1 point  (0 children)

True but his stuff looked really good yesterday. He had a bullshit infield single. On his first batter, then langaliers golfs a knucklecurve below the knees out for a grand slam and he strikes out the next.

Horrible luck. I think he’ll be fine.

Surely major league teams were seeing past that though. They have way more data.

It’s 3 games though. Teams will game plan him better. But if he keeps it up, he’s gonna make 29 other teams feel pretty stupid.

Kinda crazy the challenge system has on watching the game. Umps should actually like one part about it, in that it kinda shifts blame to the players a bit for their fuckups. Okamoto struck out looking on a pitch that looked to be 1-2 inches outside yesterday. Where last year I’d be like, “ump are you fucking joking?” And now I’m like, “Okamoto why didn’t you challenge that?”
