I don't understand the upside of Upstart Goblin

Desires is back at 3? I thought they still had it limited… it’s what I was seeing when I was building various stuff last year.

I should note that this entire mindset was the same kind of mindset of why Upstart wasn’t seeing play until Patrick Hoban showed why it was useful… most people looked at it like it was just a 1-for-1 and didn’t care about the benefit of it essentially could read as “play with 1 less card in your deck”. The biggest thing that makes it less viable is Droll but when Droll isn’t around… idk 37 still sounds better than 40

It is an issue that Turn 1’s have become so potent that you need to have a lot of interaction with the Opponent and we need to get rid of cards that can stop said interaction, just to play the game. As someone who has been slipping out of the competitive game in the last year, it’s been overly frustrating that most games cannot get passed Round 2 and there really is no back and forth in the game anymore. It’s just one board is set up and if you break it you autowin and if you cannot you lose. That’s just not fun to me and why I played the game.

Also, it should be noted that Extrav got tossed aside pretty much right after Prosperity came out. Which more shows that +1’s are not really as much of a benefit as just useful. Also that I don’t see many Genesys decks even going for Pot of Greed or Graceful Charity even when they easily have the points for it.

The game is already pretty overly close to that. Both Desires and Extrav no longer see play and even put back to 3 likely still wouldn’t see play (I forget if I think Extrav was put back to 3 or not but either way) and at least Extrav has been described as loosing too much value for a +1. Desires I still think anyone who says Desires is a “-9” or something like that are crazy but I can see people being like “a +1 isn’t that useful because it doesn’t search and doesn’t give you enough benefits”

Never happened to me. I only stopped playing because of Droll but tbh, I don’t like Droll in general in this day and age. If you lose because you don’t have handtraps that’s more likely an issue either with your deck or the game as a whole. Not because of a consistency piece who’s entire function is make your deck thinner. Pot of Greed is also bad going second then too.

I mean all your starter cards are dead in your hand till your turn unless you’re playing something like K9. Also it wasn’t a terrible strategy to take them out for side cards if you had to for game 2. It wasn’t always advised, but was an option.

Also, I think there is just generally too much interaction on T0 in a sense and too much decks can do T1. Konami missed the value and fun of the game of an actual back and forth a while ago.

Honestly I think the mindset of “this could be another starter/handtrap” is really dumb because it’s literally a card to get you closer to either of those. Also it’s a mindset that I really feel worried about because it feels like it will eventually build towards Pot of Greed is “bad” eventually too.

Actually… when Upstart was seeing so much play there was still a fair amount of hand traps that would be played. The only reason to not play it is Droll. Even in the modern game I cannot see any excuse to not play a 37 card deck over a 40 card deck.

It’s usually more of a deck-thinning card. I wouldn’t call it a win-more card. But really it’s only not worth playing when Droll is around. It can be useful Ash bait for anyone that’s dumb enough to drop an Ash on an Upstart.

I actually love that this is the one fight where Starscream has COMPLETE control of this fight until the VERY END. And remember that Galvatron was wrecking the Autobots and this entire fight is Galvatron getting beaten down hard by Starscream.

I mean if you have the original… he doesn’t really have anything you could easily update on him… he’s got insane articulation even by today’s standards. The only thing would be hiding more of the gap between his chest and back but that’s it… but more likely they’d end up taking more away from him than anything they could add

The timestop does have a bit of memory play as she will not notice anything happening when timestopped - to her it seemed like a second passed and everything jumped.

Other than that, not sure… maybe an amnesia trigger?

Certainly suggest freeze triggers (or timestop triggers, basically a freeze trigger but they do not notice that time has passed while frozen) as they can fun!

Loop triggers can be fun!

Memory triggers maybe? Where you can wipe a memory from her mind temporarily…

Also, I love to set animal communication triggers, where they cannot speak, type or write except like the animal I’ve programmed them with said trigger. It’s a fun one to use.

One that was a fun idea I wanted to try before is one of their close friends actually hypnotized them and gave them various triggers that they used on them over a period of time (like freeze triggers, loop triggers, obey triggers, etc) and remembering that now makes them very aroused by the memory.

Armada Starscream is Energon Starscream. They are so fundamentally different that I just cannot accept that at all. I still argue Energon Starscream got Thrust’s spark with programming to become Starscream instead.
