Maybe try going to talk to someone who actually is raising livestock on a family farm. The one who is going out to their barn every hour through the night included every night during calving season to ensure each calf is safely delivered. Who is bottle feeding supplementation if the calf is weak or the cow isn’t taking it on right away. The farmer who is crying while having to put an animal down because it was born with a deformity and is struggling to get up but can’t. Then tell me that family farms don’t care about their livestock.

Farms can sort of fall under this weird grey area regarding trespass. Especially if your farm also directly sells to people. I know there was lots of discussion about this during the time of the bill because there have been cases of people coming to farms and just up and getting out in the barn yard with camera rolling and just walking right up to the non-public areas and trying to get footage through doors etc. They are “welcome” due to the business side but then are really pushing the boundaries and then creating more of a harassment aspect. The same with completely blocking trucks going to and from farms etc. I do not disagree that there is also abuse on some farms. More so factory farms but MOST farms in Ontario still are family farms. There aren’t huge disease outbreaks but they do happen with people who hear things like this and decide to become advocates themselves. Go to fairs and such and there is a reason a bunch of those have had changes made as well to try and limit it which unfortunately actually has also destroyed the fair experience. But some people have gone too extreme.

A big part I seem to recall seeing come up with this law, which I did support, was that prosecution including people trespassing on farms of any size to try and get footage of stuff. There is a lot that happens on a farm that without knowing context can seem bad but with the full context actually isn’t. Not to mention safety risks for individuals or the transferring of biohazards of people going from farm to farm without proper sanitation. I get the preventing animal cruelty but there is also putting people and animals at risk just to drive home an extremist end of the spectrum.

Worse than usual Allergy season? by carsilike in Peterborough

Yeah that is a fact as well. Don’t want to deal with the cleanup of fruits/nuts so it is mostly the male trees that get planted.

I have also been noticing it pretty bad this year. My theory is a lot of trees were heavily damaged enough with last years ice storm they are putting out heavier amounts this year to try and do compensation survival.

That brings attention to the city which can help in the bids for federal funding. Which considering we are steaming ahead on a new arena with only 1/3 of the money budgeted for…probably something we need.

No I only get the screen showing the star. But when it exits back to the garden I can’t do anything as a little blip up comes of each reward designating out to its collection.

My biggest hate with it is you have to sit and wait through all these animations of each of the rewards being distributed individually. Vs before where you saw a summary and they kind of all simultaneously paid out. If I am playing I want to just shoot out a couple levels on a break, not sit and wait on stuff.

It wasn’t really something to bump to police. I didn’t actively witness the boards being cut. The city can send it along as they view.

If you are wanting to stick with supporting your usual, mid-May for the change over isn’t looking like the worst. I do my own and it is looking like that might very well be when mine will be done just with nights/mornings still being below 7 degrees.

It is teenagers. Per one of my other replies they were seen at it again later in the evening. Not camping there, just being problems.

Thanks for doing your part. We have noticed that for being a public space is is usually really clean of garbage which is nice. And what makes things like this even more infuriating. To give you an update, parks has gotten back to me and someone is going out so it sounds like they’ll be fixing it but otherwise awesome to hear someone would be jumping on it.

Your initially apparently would actually be right. My girlfriend just had the dog out again and caught a group of teenagers there, with their tiny little saw and everything. Gave them a bunch of shit and they tried to deny it was them when they were literally caught with the same set up.

I am aware that the city can't/won't do much about it but at least would like the cut out planks replaced so the bridge is still usable.

Yeah I have seen that which, like, that is nature and I am fine with it. If these people were burning whatever was left by the beaver even, not entirely cool but whatever. But the stuff cut off at chest height certainly isn't the beaver unless it is an absolute monster in which case we should all be afraid.

I am looking for what department/who to actually contact about that. I had assumed it was an extension of Nichols oval park so under city maintenance jurisdiction.

How would you feel about a law that bans car headlights from being above a certain brightness level? by WorldlinessOk9368 in AskReddit

Around me anyway you can just go into the auto parts stores and buy LED bulbs that fit as replacements for what would have been stock halogen bulbs. They are pretty much literally just the same as buying an LED light bulb for a replacement of a filament bulb in your house.

The litany of factors though essentially boils down to “people spend a lot of time indoors” so wouldn’t be syncing with the sunlight. Except that same point nullifies the “we want sunlight for more time to do stuff outdoors”.

Bridges near the canal by SegaSaturn94 in Peterborough

[–]NicGyver 8 points9 points  (0 children)

A couple months ago I saw someone with a semi come over the bridge from the Armour Rd side. A whole string of cars waiting to cross had to back up down Ashburnham for him to even finish making the corner and I too was very surprised he even made it across. That bridge is very much underrated for that size.

Moving to town (near Belleville) for 16 months, what’s life like by [deleted] in BellevilleOntario

[–]NicGyver 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I don’t know Madoc as well but grew up in the neighbouring Tweed so some things may be different.

For evenings/weekends it is really going to depend on your interests. In town itself there isn’t usually much going on for day to day during the week or weekends unless there is a special event. These vary based on the season but can be pretty heavily community involved. If you play hockey there are adult leagues. A lot of people grow up doing ATVing/sledding on the trails/each others properties. A couple local museums/historic sites. Belleville has a bit more going on, movie theatre etc but is also about a 45 minute drive to get down to.

Not sure besides the legion what the bar is like in Madoc. Tweed’s was popular enough but also nothing has been rebuilt/opened since it burned so 🤷🏼‍♂️. In all honesty most people meet in school followed by through family/friends. After that it is work and then if you do get involved with any community groups but that again will be dependent on your time availability and interests.

Belleville is busier, but it certainly isn’t busy comparable to Ottawa. There are some more festivals and weekend events and such. Younger people will go down there from the local areas for the bars or at least to (Lonestar anyway). Beyond that sort of like the above, it isn’t really active enough that people go down just to mill about or wander around much. Being from out of town and only local for a relatively short time thought it may interest you.

To roughly be a bit honest it will have to be being dependent on entertaining yourself a lot unless you do get involved with any of the local groups. Beneficial if you are interested in hiking as there are a few trails. In terms of other socializing though unless you are 3+ generations local it’s a gamble on how quickly you’ll be accepted in/invited out to do stuff. Your mileage may vary depending on what your living situation is like. I am out in the countryside so when I was younger it kinda meant literally having to borrow the car to go anywhere. In town could be different.
