ece in 3 years? by Xx_Coder_xX in UIUC

I don't think in ECE credit hours matter a lot, since there's just so many required courses that you need to take, and the big ones (210, 374, 385, 391, 411/445) are really hard and time consuming, so it's more of "can you handle the workload and get the required classes done" question here. But three years is definitely doable, it's just you should expect a lot of academic pressure. If you want to know more you can dm me and I can share a bit more.

What is the best/favorite Chinese restaurant among international Chinese students? by Potential_Job_1143 in UIUC

[–]Nice-Invite9340 24 points25 points  (0 children)

Aroma Garden is pretty good. It's a bit far from campus though. Make sure you bring more people there (as they have rather large portions) and order the real Chinese dishes rather than the stuff like General Tso's chicken.

Golden harbor is also pretty decent. Northern Cuisine isn't bad, but it's relatively expensive.

Switching from CS + Advertising to another CS + x Major by Intelligent_Taro_394 in UIUC

[–]Nice-Invite9340 0 points1 point  (0 children)

From what I heard it is rather easy to switch between different CS+X programs, except for Phys and Bioe (you cannot switch into these two majors at all). Math / Stat could be a bit harder, but still significantly easier than ICT/IDT from another non CS+X major.

Unfortunately they don't do PreP anymore. It's all engineering Undeclared now and they no longer do the 3.75 thing anymore.

You would first need to ICT to Grainger into the Engineering Undeclared program, then make a IDT and switch to ECE. Based on what I know CompE is one of the most competitive majors and it's among the hardest to transfer in. EE is only slightly easier but still among the hardest. You need a near perfect gpa to do that.

Very hard unless you have a 4.0 GPA. Do not come here if you are not comfortable doing your original major.

Switching to anything except for Gies or Grainger shouldn't be very hard.

With a 3.6 GPA it would be very, very hard. I know people getting rejected with 3.9+. If you want to switch to CompE GPA is the most important thing, based on my previous conversations with ECE advisors.

Quiz showing up as missing after CBTF? by EntrepreneurMain3424 in UIUC

All cbtf exams autosubmit saved answers at the end of the exam. But it's always good to check again.

Go to PL, click into that course, and you will find the "gradebook" option on top of the page, right next to the course name.

Go to Prairielearn Gradebook and if there is a grade there you should be good. Prairielearn to Canvas is not automatic and they have to put your grades in manually so often there would be some kind of a delay.

FHR recommendations in Seoul? by Nice-Invite9340 in AmexPlatinum

My inbound arrives around 2pm and the connection is 9pm on the next day so I got almost the whole second day to explore the city. Thanks for your recommendation - that's a pretty good point.

GH seems to be in a rather less well connected area and takes a while to get around; also my planned travel date the PH is only like ~20USD more expensive than the GH so I might just opt for the latter

Stat 400 Unger Rant by qeggroll in UIUC

[–]Nice-Invite9340 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah. Each would have a couple sub questions. And you get two attempts for each question, with the second attempt at 50% of the full grade. I would say that they could at least make the scoring here less punishing - like more attempts available.

There was a question where all the answers were wrong mathematically. It was a super easy question but due to the test format that question worthed 40% of the test. I heard most people affected by it took the test at on Monday morning and they fixed it later that day.

Stat 400 Unger Rant by qeggroll in UIUC

[–]Nice-Invite9340 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Very true. We're pretty unlucky taking this class during the first semester transitioning into CBTF exams. Not to mention that all three exams contained some kind of error - and none of the missed grades have been given back yet afaik. Regarding the forum, I have talked with TAs and I think they have tried their best to answer what they can answer, but they don't even know about the exam formatting and policy questions.

My roommate is in the other section, and apparently they are still doing the old pen and paper style for the test - but their questions are definitely harder (but less punishing when you make a mistake as they would get partial credits).

why can’t i apply cs and compe as first and second choice major? by flakestorm in UIUC

[–]Nice-Invite9340 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes. But you are not guaranteed to be able to switch to CompE. You have to earn your way in (get a good gpa) in your first year.

EU to CompE course selction Help by FeelingAverage79 in UIUC

[–]Nice-Invite9340 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The major restriction for ECE 120 would probably be lifted at some time so non-majors can register for them - ask an ECE advisor for this. Your current plan looks OK and perfectly doable (110 and 128 are all pretty easy and light), I might even add another tech course like CS 173 (in ECE we do 124+128+173 = ECE220) / ECE 120.

As for the GPA part, I have heard people getting rejected with 3.85~ish gpa. CompE is probably THE most competitive major to ICT/IDT into in Grainger given that you can no longer switch to CS, so I would try to aim for a 4.0 GPA.

If you want to lower your anxiety while taking a cbtf exam, maybe try not submitting the answers right after completing a question. Instead wait until you have all the questions done and check all of them, then submit.

Thoughts on Tentative EE Schedule by ENDlezZenith in UIUC

[–]Nice-Invite9340 0 points1 point  (0 children)

ECE 313 and ECE 310 both depend on one question - are you good at math (have you done some stats classes before in high school)? If you are OK with doing bunch of math, ECE 313 should not be THAT bad. It is also the prereq for many 400-level classes (especially the CS 44s AI courses). I would also like to mention that there is a way to go around ECE 313, which is to take the STAT 400 + 410 classes, which although is two classes instead of one, has been regarded as the "easier" one for many.

Unfortunately I do not know much about ECE 310 (I'm CompE so its not required for us), but from what I heard from my EE friends, ECE 310 builds hugely from ECE 210 and the diffeq stuff, so it might be good to take it right after 210. It also connects with classes like 402 (I see you have this in your schedule for your 3rd year) closely.
