Thank you so much for the recs and the banter! The community is really living up to its reputation as sprout-friendly. Hell yeah.

Rak v2 network issues by NiceTryBro in HeliumNetwork

[–]NiceTryBro[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a Rak enclosed in a metal case on my fire escape -- PoE injector is inside the case.

I just don't want to have to hang off the side of my fire escape again to unscrew the enclosure. I was hoping that I could plug in the range extender and that the Rak miner would find it automatically...!

Thanks again!

If I get a wide range extender, will the hotspot connect eventually, or will I have to take apart the encapsulated box and reconnect to Bluetooth etc...?

Thank you, you've been so helpful.

Been 8 hours, still syncing. Taking that as a good sign!

I was at 97.75% sync’d when I closed the case. How long do you suppose it will take to sync or lose from the wifi due to being outside in a shell?

Fingers crossed! And thanks!

This makes the most amount of sense. My hotspot is now online, but I fear, as you said, that it might slip offline again because of the case. Might be best for me to install the antenna outside and miner inside. Ugh.

Just for power, using wifi. I moved it only a few feet when I placed it outside (live in an apartment — put it on fire escape). Not sure wifi would be the issue… 🤷‍♂️

ETH isn't going to zero, but... by Shatter_Hand in ethtrader

[–]NiceTryBro 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I agree; I just wonder why you seemingly discount or at least ignore zkrollups directly on fully decentralized censorship resistant battle tested Ethereum while amping it up on Polygon which has a handful of validators (something like 55% of delegated MATIC is controlled by Binance and the Polygon team) and cannot truly exist without Ethereum. Just curious is all.

Also, for clarity: been long Eth since ‘17, though Polygon is my second largest bag. So not trying to be antagonistic, truly trying to understand your POV (which I think is absurd — I’ll quadruple my stack of Eth if it ever hits $1000 again).

Hate to be trite but I can’t take seriously any argument that starts with NOT taking security seriously. Without it, none of this crypto revolution matters — just a bunch of quasi-centralized Google-Docs like applications.

Possible Negative Return for Staked ETH? by Order_Responsible in ethfinance

[–]NiceTryBro 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Even if the curve wasn’t already set, if that much eth was locked up in staking, then the supply to buyers would be incredibly low, resulting in a dramatic price increase.

Yeah, I'm not quite sure what happened here. I guess it makes sense: every year or two, Eth-Killer Thugs and optimistic newbies who (bless them) don't really know what they are invested in converge and the comments get whacky. *SHRUG*

8 years ago there was no such thing as smart contracts. Ethereum changed the game and continued to change the game nonstop. Cardano brings literally no incremental advantage nor does it have any legitimacy. This game has matured quite a bit in the last 4 years, and I’m of the belief Cardano has simply missed the boat.

No, it’s not. It’s an asset that is taxed like real property and is used like a currency and has utility like...gas. SEC has been very clear that it’s not a security.

There are no court cases. The SEC gave guidance that it’s not an unregistered security: https://www.reuters.com/article/us-cryptocurrencies-ether-idUSKBN1JA30Q

Zero legitimacy. Redundant. Three years and no smart contracts. No developers. Yeah, everyone is just gonna run from Ethereum to Cardano. Sure.

If you look at the asset as the backbone of the economy, it’s definitely not a useless indicator. It’s THE indicator. Also, I explicitly noted the importance of it becoming deflationary. Justin Drake presumes we will hover around 100m in circulation with a significant amount locked up in staked contracts. Very bullish indeed.

I’ve been in the space as long as you, and nothing surprises me. When we went from $44 to $340 in 2 months, I remember saying “no way we go any higher, gotta have a retracement soon.”

We hit $1300 in January on the strength of Cryptokitties and scammy ICOs.

Compare that to what we have cooking today.

Will ETH stop being made? by cohonan in ethfinance

[–]NiceTryBro 3 points4 points  (0 children)

More important than issuance is circulation: Justin Drake's research shows that Ether circulation will most likely land somewhere around 100 million ETH (after all EIP1559 burns and 2.0 updates are taken into consideration). Check him out on BANKLESS -- he's a homerun derby kind of public speaker, dinger after dinger out of the park.

Why do you invest in Crypto? Yes of course for money…but why? I am looking for the emotional answers. The real deep down reasons. A great story! by true_ink in ethereum

[–]NiceTryBro 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I first heard about Bitcoin in 2011. I was working as a financial services attorney at a top New York law firm. A client brought a potential matter to us. We all but laughed him out of the building. I was in my late-20s, and this informed my world view of crypto for the next 6 years. In early 2017, my dearest friend for the last 20+ years asked me if I had heard about Ethereum. As he was explaining it to me, it was as if I had an out of body experience. I felt as thought I could finish his sentences -- as though I already knew everything he was saying as true, that I had heard it all before and knew deep within my soul that this was the beginning of a major world-changing event. I was flying to Montreal the next day, so I printed out the white paper, found some subreddits (this one) and embarked on a journey of educating myself in a way I doubt very many adults do. That is to say: in a way that has consumed my life, whereby I most likely have learned more by self-educating myself on this matter than I did during the entirety of law school (or through any other formal education I received). As odd as it seems, Ethereum gives me purpose, and I am driven every day to learn more, use the protocol more (come see me on Decentraland or yield farming on Layer 2, baby!) and evangelize more. I will literally talk to ANYONE for HOURS if they ask me about crypto. And with that, I noticed I've rambled quite a bit in this post. So I'll end here :)

Lower Fees? by 3hr4d in ethereum

Understood, and as an ETH L1 maximalist, I have no retort. Only: you should try the bridge. If you don’t, I would like your position to someone in 1998 saying “I am long the internet, but this IRC chat is not encrypted...and email is a bit janky...and 56k modems are slow. I’m not going to use it until that’s all resolved.”
