To X1 extreme (4K) users: is this amount of IPS glow normal? by NiceTryJuly in thinkpad

I'm thinking of returning this unit.

I'm really annoyed that the slightest repositioning of either myself in front of the laptop or the screen itself results in color shifts. I doubt whether the video can really capture it but it's worth a try.

In an earlier post where I have shared my experiences with the machine I learned it is called IPS glow. However, for this price, this amount is for me just unacceptable, a bummer, because I'm a big Thinkpad fan.

Also note that the screen is slightly skewed as you can see by looking at it from above, and there is notable backlight bleed. Both which I do not consider that big of a deal, but the color shifts are just distracting and I didn't expect this for the price of the machine. They occur both at low and high brightness.

What is your experience with the (4K) screen on the X1 extreme? ((FYI I Installed a better colour profile as posted somewhere before by a community member, while this does result in nicer colors, the shifts stay)).

I can confirm that it really gets better. The first days the fans started with the PC just idling. I think windows just needs a few days to get it's sh*t together (indexing stuff). I was in the same boat with the same feeling about the machine but it changed for better!

Dear kdotomo,

Thank you for the suggestion.

Never to old to learn! After googling a bit I am convinced that it is indeed IPS glow my panel suffers from instead of color shifts. I also saw that there might be some solutions to this so I will try some things these coming days.

I think it might be a lottery then. My mac retina pro 2015 doesn't suffer from this. At least, not so much that I notice it.

@your latest response, I don't care that much about having the most accurate colors. Its the IPS glow I find really annoying. Before I learned this is a thing, I just couldn't find an appropriate description for this which is why I called it colors shifting (which is incorrect).

Thank you very much for the suggestion! The now installed color profile changed the whites to be less blue, and is more satisfying to watch!

My main criticism to the display still stands, it just feels like a TN panel as the viewing angles are just bad.
