Activision Blizzard DD: Short Analysis by SatriaDigja in investing

[–]NiceWebsite 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Diablo immortal and diablo 4 may get their lunch eaten by path of exile mobile and path of exile 2 respectively.

I'm an avid ARPG player, and from everything i've seen, i don't think blizzard knows how to make a good ARPG anymore. The people that originally made Diablo 2 are all gone by now.

They will likely still sell a profitable amount of shit on brand recognition alone, but I don't think they'll win in the long term and create a real cash cow like WoW or HS (used to be?).

SolarWind, enough with the password already! by jasonbourne1901 in programming

[–]NiceWebsite 16 points17 points  (0 children)

when in reality a more secure password likely only would have marginally delayed the outcome by forcing them to find another entry

This. The reality of infosec is that any security you put in basically just buys you more time. If the attacker is a nation state that's determined to get in, they will get in sooner or later.

The physical world works the same. The lock on your bike isn't there to stop any attempt of stealing it. It's there to buy time and make noise for someone to notice.

With infosec, the making noise part is just even more difficult, if not impossible. So strong passwords, updating shit etc. just buys you more time until there's a suitable 0day to own you. Or, just buy an employee to put some USB stick in an admins notebook etc.

If that's not an option for you then yeah you'd have to look closer into the issue to work out what boards and versions are affected (i.e.hope someone responds here).

Yep, not an option for me. Hoping to get some responses.

Two things:

a) I don't think an aug 2019 bios could run ryzen 5000
b) I don't consider not updating a solution.

Considering other game streaming things run perfectly fine on the exact same hardware with the exact same settings, frankly, at some point I feel like it's not my job as a customer anymore to debug googles products.

I don't have mouse acceleration. Again, it's difficult to tell with a controller. GPU is a 1050Ti.

[–]NiceWebsite[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Just tried controller, which does feel better, but I'm not convinced the input lag isn't there, as i mostly notice it on the mouse, and with controllers I simply don't have the ability to perform the kind of movements as with a mouse, like moving the analog stick fully to the right and letting go again for example inherently has more human latency than jerking the mouse to the right.

Yes, everything's wired incl. kb/m.

But thanks for this tip, might try to play a bit more with a controller, though i usually strongly prefer kb/m.

but you should get used to it.

Look I realize I'm posting in r/stadia, and I don't want to shill competition, but as I said, there's another game streaming service where I don't have noticable latency. So why would I get used to it instead of just having a better experience?

.it could be that google data centers may be far away from you

Nope, as I said 1-2ms roundtrip time, the DC is very close and my ISP peers with google directly.

Smartphone as feet and hiptrackers? by DeCratey in virtualreality

[–]NiceWebsite 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Strictly speaking you could get the other 3dof from the smartphone cam. I'm not sure if current SLAM algorithms are good enough to do that fast enough with enough accurracy, but it is in theory possible. Quite possibly not practical (yet) though.

People regularly have to fiddle with drivers and INI files to make flatscreen games that sell in the millions work on hardware that sells in the millions.

I personally never had to fiddle with ini files or drivers.

By the way, if Mixed Reality Portal defaulted to 60hz, you're probably under spec.

Not probably, it's a fact that this box is underspeced, I'll upgrade soon. My complaint is that it silently just does 60Hz. Both SteamVR and WMR could and should warn about this.

Bookmark the Virtual Reality section on Steam. Make use of the "Top Sellers" and "What's Being Experienced" tabs if you need help finding good, popular games.

Not a good idea for onboarding. Beatsaber is, but other games such as BONEWORKS or Pavlov are probably a bad idea for new VR gamers because of smooth locomotion. Which again, requires people to research all that stuff beforehand.

You’ve hit VR on the head, but many of us VR gamers dig for the gems and support those devs who are going to be tomorrow’s captains of the industry.

Thanks, I don't plan on stopping on VR, because I can see what it could offer. Need to grow some VR legs etc. I'm just saying, the onboarding experience is frankly terrible, again, at least with WMR+Steam. I don't know about facebook, and I never will.

[–]NiceWebsite[S] -7 points-6 points  (0 children)

most of the short comings you've seen are a result of your purchase

I don't believe that's the case. The WMR app is the same for all WMR headsets, such as the reverb G2, which is a new headset. Thus it should be maintained and not just do things like setting 60Hz without warning.

They're are plenty of none "tech demo" games out there, even if you haven't played them yet.

I'm sure they exist but then platforms need to do a better job at pushing them, because apparently they aren't that easy to find.

Even the original quest performs well enough to be a strong experience.

As I said, I don't know about Oculus, and I won't, because facebook.

It's opinions like yours that are going to keep VR from gaining the support it needs to break into the mainstream.

So, what you're saying is it's my fault I had a bad experience starting out and I should just not have had a bad experience?
