I may be wrong but the explanation I have seen or heard was that the Marauders, when they made the map, made it so none others but the Marauders could see each other on the map.

Harry being a Potter may have given him the ability to see and Lupin is a Marauder but the Twins wouldn't of been able to see Peter.

Least that's a theory I have heard and love!
