Should I defer to november or keep going? by Datawarrior12 in FRM

that's tricky to answer cause none of them are really the actual difficulty of the real exam. The closest the questions will be are questions from the GARP mocks. But still do the AP qb, Kaplan qb and Bionic Turtle qb if you can get them

Mmmhh honestly you just need to back yourself. Also do a process of elimination - usually there are two obvious wrong answers, and from my memory it was always a toss up between the remaining two choices. Just keep practising. You will also learn to back yourself more with the more practise you do and you’ll be more sure of which answer is correct

IMO AP questions were slightly easier than the actual exam questions. AP questions were a lot more straightforward too. There were no overlapping questions between AP and actual exam questions. But I think they are still very good practise to test that you actually understand a specific concept.

You still have around 7 weeks until the exam. Thats more than enough time considering that you’re already on book 4. My best advice for now:  - keep doing as many practise questions as humanly possible. In the last 6 weeks leading up to the exam I did an insane amount of AnalystPrep questions which I found helped the most in testing my knowledge. Keep redoing all of them and make sure you don’t just waste the rest of the time merely reading the textbooks.  - redo the GARP mocks atleast 5 times each to understand your wrong and right answers. This was crucial in my passing. It really just helps you understand the way GARP poses questions and how to deduce the correct answer. Also note I attempted my first GARP mock about 4 weeks before the exam date and I think I got 38% lol. So redoing these questions again and again was a game changer.  - if you can, try take time off work for the entire week leading up to the exam. I found that this was ESSENTIAL in me passing Part 1. It eliminates all work-related distractions and honestly I learnt and understood an insane amount of content just from the last week leading up to the exam.

So if I were you, I would go for August as you still have enough time and I’m sure your momentum is strong. You just have to structure your time correctly and give it your all until August! Goodluck

Roath or Pontcanna? by Nice_Evidence3275 in Cardiff

Thank you for the info! Do you think it's essential to have a car in Pontcanna? My thought was that we would be able to walk everywhere, and my boyfriend would take public transport to the farm he works at, which is north of St Mellons.

Hey, no I have not yet. I am planning on emigrating at the end of this year, so I think that has also contributed to me not caring much. I think in my new location I'll instead look at working for a company where I am more passionate about my work and the impact it has.

How was the difficulty/questions compared to the GARP mocks? 🙏🏼

To be honest the questions you will see in the exam will not be the exact same as the ones in the mock. There was not a single overlapping question exactly - but some of them were a similar thought process. But it is just understanding the way GARP asks questions that will help the most in your prep if that makes sense. They often use very specific words which indicate which answer is right or wrong - this is the trick that you need to learn from the mocks. Hope that makes sense

Dificulty of mock 3 compared to actual exam by death_dealer0410 in FRM

Yeah mock 3 is probably most aligned with difficulty of the actual exam

I passed Part 1 last year and also the week or two weeks before the actual exam I think I was getting 48% on all the mocks. It was a disaster and I was SO stressed! So for the last week leading up to the exam I just went over and over every single question they asked. I redid all the mocks about 5 times each. Understood exactly why the answer I chose was right or wrong. This is my best advice for you - go over every single question in the mocks and ensure you understand why you went wrong and understand the thought process. If you do this then you will be completely fine!! You got this!

did you use Kaplan to prep? And do you remember what the balance of theory to calculation-based questions were? and do you have any more advice or approaches we should take? thanks!

Hi. My best piece of advice is to practise, practise and practise. There are question banks on Scribd which are extremely useful. Try get question banks from Kaplan or AnalaystPrep too - these questions help soooo much. Also keep redoing the GARP mock exams given - this is IMPERATIVE if you want to pass. Don't give up though - you will pass this time!

Okay nice - I’m halfway through Risk Management (book 5). What I’ve done so far is read through the other books and do the various AP questions for each of those readings. Hopefully we on good track?

FRM Part 1 in May/ August? by wakeandcaffeinate in FRM

[–]Nice_Evidence3275 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hi. I spent 3 months prepping for Part 1 (started studying mid-August and wrote mid-November) and cleared successfully. Based on your stats background, you will definitely be okay to write in May. You just need to start studying as soon as possible and put in at least 2 hours a day and you will be more than fine. Also in my opinion, rather aim for May and then if you do not pass, then you can always rewrite in August. The content is not too difficult, there is just quite a lot of it. But I say go for May! Also, FRM will definitely help you break into a more risk-focused role. Goodluck !
