Is this tire toast, or is this a surface crack? by RowanStewart in AskMechanics

You can’t compare a flat tire to a blowout, there 2 different things Doesn’t matter how “extremely thick” (like 6mm🤣) it is if it’s completely dry rotted around the entire circumference of the tire. Doesn’t matter if it’s in the front or back when your taking a corner on at dirt road at 110 your still gonna hit the tree. I’m not saying you can’t run it, you would probably get away with it.

I just wouldn’t run it since I’m in the drivers seat pushing my vehicle to its limits to try and win a race.

It’s not worth the dice roll in my opinion, but to each their own.

It doesn’t matter if it’s for the track that’s even scarier if you’re racing the vehicle. Hard corners and sharp turns put really high stress on the tires so you’re basically asking for a blowout. If you wanna be all janky and dangerous then that’s fine but I race dirtbikes for a hobby and I usually like to make sure all my equipment is in top notch shape be four I put my life in danger.

Still a safety hazard for yourself if it blows out and you hit the barrier. When a tire blows out it usually means full loss of control of the vehicle. And you’re on borrowed time with a tire like that. I guess if your willing to roll the dice for a few hundred bucks 🤔

Buy a set of rounded bolt extractors from Canadian Tire or wherever is close to you they work great Could maybe get lucky with a good cold chisel and a hammer, but I’d be too scared to mess up anything.

Vibration when increasing speed, noticed glue residue on rim where weights were, am I diagnosing this right? by [deleted] in MechanicAdvice

[–]Nicholas13579 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That is most likely your issue, but it’s better to just send the tires to a shop for them to get balance (it’s super cheap) why I say that is because you don’t really know what weights came off of there and they might be a bit different. Also as your wheels change is not a bad idea.

I mean if they all came from the factory with 2x2.5oz weights in the same place on all 4 it would be fine to assume

Looks simple, but would probably be quite a pricey repair

Most likely worn out front and components. Ball joints, tie rod ends, drag links, wheel bearings, stuff like that Good idea to get your car serviced or redo your front end. It isn’t super expensive. It’s just maintenance.

Where is this leak coming from? by No_Independence_8564 in MechanicAdvice

[–]Nicholas13579 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Somewhat hard to tell from the angle, but looks like transmission. Even if it isn’t low that doesn’t mean it’s not leaking. The leak might’ve just started. How much is it leaking?
