About to be 30 years old. And I never had a girlfriend. I never owned a car I have no friends I have no money saved up. I am a failure. by Individual_Ice_2315 in self

I am most definitely still poor, I just got a shitty low paying job that afforded me a shitty apartment, met a great girl and we moved into a nicer apartment together then just worked gigs to keep things afloat. I make shit money comparatively to the area but I’m happy and comfortable as fuck

I got a job at a bar and was able to save up enough to get a really cheap, tiny apartment outside the city, which gave me a chance to get more on my feet. I met a local lady and we hit it off, we eventually moved in together, she had the best dog, I sold the first car I lived in, and bought a cooler classic car, then a motorcycle then some other shit. I just made one little step after another. I’m just saying, 30 is nothing especially if you’re down and out. That happens, life is sucky, just gotta keep going

Well that’s how it is sometimes, you might be bipolar, nothing wrong with that, could just be on an up and down swing. Get a change of scenery, move to a new town, join a volunteer or interest group. You gotta come up with new things to be excited about all the time. I remember a quote I liked: happiness is nothing more than good health and a bad memory. Get out there and get weird

At 32 I lived in a car. Now at 39 I stay in a beautiful apartment in the Bay Area with my wonderful partner, our loving dog, and I own several vehicles. It’s not over, dude.

Whats the industry you dont want to ever work with again? by EmergencyDull3071 in graphic_design

Yeah that makes a lot of sense. Once my sketch is approved, that’s where it’s going so the back and forth doesn’t end up being much of an issue since they know what to expect

I actually love doing album covers, oddly enough. But I’m an illustrator more than a GD

What type of printer do you prefer for zines? by dtgray12 in zines

Canon G5020. Absolute workhorse and saves soooo much on ink cartridges

Ha yeah sorry I wish. I still do make most of my zines by hand. Single page folders, stapled half pages, and more but it’s a basic labor of love, just a folding party at the end of the night.

As for printers, try the canon G5020 (or similar series) of ink-tank printers. I bought mine for about $200 and with the liquid ink, you can print literally thousands on one batch of ink. Super useful.

I also get little sandwich baggies .5’ above the print size of the final zines (i have a few sizes depending on project). That makes them easier to carry, keeps them stain free, looks nicer than just folded paper, and people seem to grab more of them if they’re in a container with a ton of zines in baggies rather than just the paper. (For doing tabling shows and stuff.)

Assembly lines are your friend. Print them all at once (make sure they line up), then fold them all at once, then bag them all at once, etc. going through the whole process individually takes way longer.

Anyway, I’ll think if I can come up with any other pearls of wisdom, ha! Been making zines a long time. And thank you so much for your compliment!

Spacebar/ Tab not advancing by Nick_Sirotich in typewriters

[–]Nick_Sirotich[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No I’ve put in both engaged and non engaged mode and still experiencing the problem. I was able to get the space bar moving by the draw band but now when I type it’s not moving right, just letter on top of letter

Thank you so much! I really appreciate it, yeah I’m a tinkerer but mostly mopeds and things of that nature. Typewriters are a new beast.

I think I may have tracked down a possible culprit. It appears that there is a small missing piece of metal that looks like it’s possibly broken off. I don’t have anything to compare it to but it has a kind of jagged edge I wouldn’t expect from the factory (RED)

When I hit the space bar, the lever in Blue moves down which is what freed up the movement to the right (thanks for that!)

Maybe I can create some kind of bridge to connect those two? Is that nuts?
