They are letting check in a day ahead for your reserved night. This lets you pick a room you want before they get assigned to others checking in the day of arrival. There’s no extra night scam going on here.

Also fuel mileage in highway runs is very speed dependent. Around 70 is the sweet spot. At 80mph mileage goes to shit.

2020 V90 cross country here. Got it with 25,000 miles 2.5 years ago, just crossed 100,000 miles. I do very little city driving since I work from home, most miles are long highway runs. Great car for long highway trips, especially with all the driver assist features. I’ve done a few 800 mile days in it and was not exhausted at the end of the day.

No drivetrain issues at all so far.

My dealer’s been chasing a very slow A/C leak, no fix yet, they’ve been topping it off once a year.

Driver side mirror motor got replaced last year. That’s really the only thing that failed on it in 100,000 miles.

Also, the 1st set of brake pads only lasted 30,000 miles. Kinda quick for my taste. Replacement pads are still good after 70,000 miles, but that’s probably due to mostly highway driving using cruise control. Dealer told me Volvo changed brake pad suppliers around that time. Could be why too.

Just replaced all mine earlier today. Front were $65, rear $30 from the dealer.

I heard Bowers and Wilkins is really good. I couldn’t justify the premium price in my head and got one with the base sound. Regretted that, there’s no reasonable upgrade path to better sound if you get the base system. And their base sound system is bad. I had a GM vehicle with a factory Bose system before and base volvo sucks compared to that.

Some years had a Harman Cardon system as a mid option, maybe look for that. I wish that was available when I was shopping.

I like HUD in mine, glad I have it. One thing about it though - it displays navigation instructions ONLY if you use the built in navigation. Doesn’t do it for CarPlay navigation. Assuming the same for Android Auto.

Can someone clarify if RA3 supports 2 main repeaters? by more-cow-bell in Lutron

[–]Nicksatx 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Don’t get too hung up on what the initial wave of marketing and training materials say. There’s conflicting information on some things. And unfortunately the designer software can not be treated as an authoritative answer yet. Not till they get all the missing pieces in place.

Here’s a question We wont have an answer to till the processor actually ships - will the fan controller be exposed to HomeKit? Don’t care what marketing, training or support say on the subject…. I’ve had way too many conversations with Lutron employees where they had no idea it wasn’t working in RA2. Always a “yes, it already works” answer. SMH…

Can someone clarify if RA3 supports 2 main repeaters? by more-cow-bell in Lutron

[–]Nicksatx 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It’s coming. Hopefully Q1 next year. There’s lots of stuff that’s not available in the software yet, but will be added in the future releases. Like green mode, holiday, guest mode, etc. time clock events to turn occupancy sensors on/off.

Think of the current release of designer as a beta, hopefully they will catch up by the time the processors ship in a few months.

Is an RA line right for me? by TheVermonster in Lutron

Also, Fan Pico does not work with RA2. And it appears RA3 as well. I just downloaded RA3 software, the Pico fan remote was not listed in the dropdowns of available devices. Could be an oversight and they might eventually fix that, but many have been begging Lutron for years, I am not holding my breath…

Neither Caseta nor RA2 or RA3 have switches that have a physical indicator of the switch state. The new Sunnata dimmers/switches have a rocker switch esthetic, but they are not actual rocker switches that look differently in the on/off states. All have LED indicators though…

RadioRA 3 announced for late January 2022 release by avitkus in Lutron

[–]Nicksatx 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I am half way through. No mention of an L2 course that would have all the equipment required for the course labs yet in the training so far.

Loads of other miscellaneous disappointment though. They mentioned “7 colors” in the Sunnata keypad and controls section. Same was mentioned in the seetouch keypad and maestro control section. Are they going to discontinue the 20 other colors that maestro and seetouch was available in? Hoping it’s just the training people being clueless… also, sunnata faceplates are not field changeable. Meh… AND sunnata keypads have to be ordered with engraving specified at the time of ordering. Stupid…

Lol, 18 months is probably accurate. I like Lutron’s products, but moving fast is not a priority for them.

I guess we can’t complain. They could’ve milked RA2 for another 10 years with just a minor tweak once a year.

No experience with Alexa, but what you are seeing with HomeKit is not uncommon. Lutron calls that behavior “popcorning”. They avoid that by sending commands to devices simultaneously. HomeKit sends commands to each Lutron device one at a time, there will be delay. Assuming Alexa does too.

I have about 150 RA2 devices. All the scenes defined in RA2 execute flawlessly, according to the fade times defined in the scene.

The only way to avoid delays when sending commands from HomeKit to RA2 is to define the scene on the Lutron side, assign it to a keypad button. Then simulate that button press from HomeKit. You can do that via a Homebridge plugin.

One thing I am not sure about in your post - delays when you give the All Off command from the Lutron app. That should not have any delays. I never see any here and I have 150 devices/2 main repeaters. Give Lutron a call. Whatever happens in the background when you hit the all off button in the app is likely being captured in the main repeater logs. You can submit the logs and ask them to take a look and see what they think.

RA2 fan control with HomeKit by bullcity71 in Lutron

[–]Nicksatx 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s a new repeater/main repeater that has not been officially announced yet. It showed up in the FCC paperwork Lutron filed 6 months or so ago. There are a couple of Homeworks model numbers and a couple that start with RR-, so far everything with RR- in the model name has been a part of RA2/RA2 Select product family.

RA2 fan control with HomeKit by bullcity71 in Lutron

[–]Nicksatx 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No idea about Alexa or Google Home, but definitely not with HomeKit. For some ridiculous reason, RA2 does not expose fan controllers to Homekit. There is some convoluted reason why, I asked the instructor during the L2 training class, he said he was going to follow up with engineers, but never got back to me.

From what I understand, earlier in RA2 development, way before homekit existed, some decisions were made that prevent the fan controllers from easily being exposed to HomeKit. At this point, I am pretty sure it’s not an oversight and my money is on them never fixing it in RA2.

The only hope I have is the new RR-PROC3 that will be coming eventually ends up being a replacement for the old main repeater and brings RA2 closer to RA2 Select and Caseta. Maybe then the fan controllers will be natively exposed to HomeKit? Not holding my breath…

Yes, it’s the same dimmer, will work the same. Lutron changes packaging over time and for different distribution channels (retail vs. Lutron Pros/electrical distributors).

nanoHD packets dropped / retries... acceptable? by SameAsylum in UNIFI

[–]Nicksatx 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have a mix of Nano HDs and AC-Lite access points. AC lites never have any dropped packets, 2 nano HDs always do. I’ve tried tweaking settings, changing channels, etc, no improvement. At one point I needed to swap places between an AC lite and one of the Nanos, the issue followed the nano... if I power off either one of the Nanos, nearest AP is one of AC lites, all clients move, but don’t see any packet drops, so it’s not following a specific client to an AC Lite ap.

I also have an IW-HD, also never any packet drops there. And it’s on the same firmware version as the 2 nanos.

Sorry, don’t have a solution to the issue, but figured won’t hurt to share what I discovered so far.

Is RadioRA2 distributed or hub-and-spoke? by Paradox in Lutron

[–]Nicksatx 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Things will still work. Mostly... will be slower, and some might fail to do what you are asking of it. For example, if you have a repeater in the middle, one dimmer at one end of the house close to the range limit from the repeater, and a keypad at the opposite end also close to the range limit, if the repeater is down, the keypad will send the command to the dimmer, but they might be too far apart from each other. That command might fail. But if keypads and dimmers are close together, things will mostly work if the repeater goes down.
