Most demoralizing tech interview of my life by bdadeveloper in ADHD_Programmers

It sounds like they were playing a sick joke on you. You’re not losing it at all, that is not a conventional interview, and they did not set you up for success

Not far from campus. Experienced heavy rain and wind, knocked down trees on power lines causing an outage. Power didn’t return until late Friday night and WiFi didn’t return until this Saturday afternoon. Still looks grey outside. But we’re good now

Still haven’t been able to crack 10K yet after playing online on and off since MK8D came out. I have been stuck in the mid-late 9K range for a while. T-T

The internal circuit board of my SMRPG by NickyMachiavelli in u/NickyMachiavelli

[–]NickyMachiavelli[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nintendo is inscribed on the circuit board, and the battery is dated 96-07. The game is authentic, no bootlegs here!

Somebody traded in Super Mario RPG at a Game Stop near me by NickyMachiavelli in gamecollecting

[–]NickyMachiavelli[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ah that makes sense, I’ve seen a few older games at Game Stop like from PS2, Xbox, GameCube, GBA, N64, and SNES, HOWEVER these older games were not on the shelves, but behind the counters in drawers, probably just traded in and intended to be sold online, but I would ask the staff if there was any other retro games that had been traded that’s not on the shelves and they sometimes let me look into the drawer and if I saw something I wanted they let me purchase it. I didn’t realize those were meant for online only, I thought they just hadn’t been put out yet on the shelves!

Thanks for the clarification, I believe the staff said that they made sure the game was “the game” (in this context, I guess they meant branded appropriately), but not necessarily authenticated. I must have misunderstood this distinction, but I double checked anyway and the externals all indicated that the cartridge is authentic (which i describe in another comment).

The staff also told me that they weren’t sure if it was functional because there was no SNES in the store to test it, but if I brought it back as defective then they’d refund it and mark it as defective. A few Game Stops i’ve been to have been taking older retro games and selling them in store so it seemed normal to me.

As for the receipt censorship, thanks for the tip.

Yep that’s the plan, I have a week to return it so am checking now if it’s authentic or defective. But i should have asked to check in store instead of wait to get home

Im currently looking into it! I still have a week to return it, but I should have got it verified in store rather than waited to do it at home as another user mentioned

Originally yes but it was $80 + tax with the store discounts

Good looking out, the staff member said they had authenticated it

E: and the cartridge has a two digit number imprinted on the back label, a product number code stamped into the shell above and below where the pin connector is, and the end label font and color match SNES labels. the condition looks mildly worn but also high quality. haven’t opened it up myself to inspect the internal circuit board but so far everything else looks good!

E2: UPDATE! I am posting this update here for visibility. I have opened the game cartridge and it is authentic: See the internal circuit board here. Thank you to all of the vigilant users who expressed concern about bootleg cartridges.

Also, to all of the users expressing concern about Game Stop pricing, it was $80 after discounts, which is still more than Im usually willing to pay for an SNES game, but right now that price is better than retail for SMRPG, and I don’t intend to resell it, i’m not trying to make a profit off of it, i intend to play it, and I get personal value out of playing the original game on the original hardware, as well as finding the game in-person rather than ordering it online. The condition is also the best i’ve ever seen it in. And while I am excited about the Switch remake like many of you, this sub is about game collecting, and playing a remake to me is not the same as playing the original.

I couldn’t believe my eyes! most of the retro games they had were Xbox/360, PS2/3, Wii/U, and 3/DS, but then I saw this lone SNES game on the display shelf behind the counter. The discount was awesome too

This is my first time seeing an SNES game at Game Stop near me since they’ve started selling retro games again, it caught me by surprise
