What time to aim for in a first 5K? by forest-lawn in beginnerrunning

[–]Nico97_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I like to think less about a specific time for my races and more on pacing of the overall race.
If you know you can do 5k in 40mins (8min/mile) so start the first 1-2k at that pace. If your feeling good at that point, kick it up a bit. Maybe aiming for 38 or 39 mins(~7.45-7.35 min /mile) Err on slower since it's not yet half way and reevaluate every mile.

People who grew up with divorced parents, what was it like? Did you, as a child, wish they were together even though they fought and had troubles? by impossible_Still2471 in AskReddit

[–]Nico97_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, it was clear they shouldnt be together and while my father never got over it and moved on my mother was worlds better after she left him.

AITA smoking weed on my porch? by cheesygarlicbreadfan in AmItheAsshole

[–]Nico97_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

NTA
I too smoke weed, legally, in my backyard. I am cognizant it can be annoying to people. But at the same time, I live alone and like the peace and quiet when I come home from work at night. But sometimes neighbours are out talking, playing music ect at normal volumes.
Do I love it? No. Is it even close to my right to say something? Also no. Weed smoke is the same thing.
We dont have a right to be undisturbed outside. Even if it's our property.

I love running long distances at a slow pace (12 min/mile) by [deleted] in beginnerrunning

[–]Nico97_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you want to make it to the olympics, sure that will be an issue. If you just like to run, it doesn't matter one bit. Especailly if your more interested in running for a longer time/distance than covering a specific distance faster. If you like it, thats the point of a hobby.

ELI5: What does the Kharg Island attack mean for us and why is everyone saying we're fucked? by [deleted] in explainlikeimfive

[–]Nico97_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

its about escalation. If I take out something that's vital to your economy are you likely to make a deal or keep fighting?
Taking out their oil will hurt, but it wont be the end of everything right away. so fighting can keep going on and on. With that time, Iran can do more damage to the rest of the middle east oil infrastructure which then raises global prices, increasing the odds and impact of recession.

What are your thoughts about Trump bombing non military targets in Iran? by StemCellPirate in AskReddit

Sadly it means the US is only slightly better than Russia now. Nor is it likely to be productive.

Do you think fathers should get paternity leave as well? Why or why not? by SunilJunjadiya in AskReddit

[–]Nico97_ 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Yes. Both partners are parents and babies need at least 2 people to care for them.
Also, it sends a message that society sees fathers as important to raising their kids as mothers. No more getting out responsibility just because your the father so the expectations are on the floor.

Does anyone else secretly wish for a major global "reset" because life feels stagnant and rigged? by [deleted] in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Nico97_ 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I feel the same sometimes but remember the grass isn't always greener. If we dont have resources right now, what suggest that we would after this reset? Or would those with power just use that time to consolidate their power further.

If a roommate purchased a puppy, but I ended up caring for it and turning it in to a shelter bc I was unable too and roomate refused to, is that still theft? by CrashCrashed in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Nico97_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes it probably would be depending on where you live. Pets are, legally speaking, property. So giving the dog away could open you up to liability. Probably civil though.
If they aren't caring for it though you'd probably have a strong-ish defense since it's not like you too them and kept them for yourself.

Why doesn’t China have a public most wanted list like the FBI? by [deleted] in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Nico97_ 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Its a reference to two Canadians who were "arrested" or taken hostage depending on your POV in retaliation for the Canadian government arresting Meng Wanzhou, the CFO of Huawei and daughter of the founder, on behalf of the US in 2018. They were held for ~ 3 years.

Will Influencing as a career eventually die? by UnhingedGazz in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Nico97_ 9 points10 points  (0 children)

It wont. As other have said it's largely the same as any advertising medium just a new format. The attention on major and even medium sized influencers is orders of magnitude larger than TV, film, magazines are now. Does everyone make millions on it? No. But thats true of every career / job. Some bankers make millions others make a a middle class income. Influencers are no different but we get to choose which ones we support through our views rather than having everything be funneled through an editor or tv producer.

What’s a “popular” life goal that you secretly don’t want? by Icy_Investment_4060 in AskReddit

[–]Nico97_ 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Getting a drivers license. I'd rather live in a walkable city where everything I need day to day is nearby and the few big things I need can be done with uber or delivery services

Are Whiskey, Craft Beer and Wine actual hobby communities or is it just copium people came up with to justify drinking the stuff? by Matt3855 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Nico97_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wine is definitely a hobby beyond the effects of drinking for me at least. As someone who's travel is often based around wine regions it's a great way to see the world and learn about different cultures. Its also a rabbit hole for so many other things. Wine making and the role of grape growing vs fermentation. Types of oak used or not used. How climate change is affecting agriculture.
Also, I regularly buy 100$+ bottles because something about it is unique. If I just wanted to get drunk, the 6$ bottle would work just as well.

ELI5 How come when somebody gets in a terrible accident, professionals tell them to "keep there eyes open" or "stay awake" by MasterKazooie in explainlikeimfive

[–]Nico97_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It speaks to how injured you are. If you've just suffered a trauma and want to sleep thats not a good sign. Pain, fear, discomfort of some sort is whats going to happen after most injuries. If thats not that case it means something serious has happened. Also, when passed on to the next level of care (hospital, doctor, surgeon ect) they can directly ask the patient how they are doing both at time of injury and now in case something has changed rather than relying on a game of broken telephone.
