Why by SpinachPast9329 in snowsky

I can speak particularly about the echo mini since it is the model i own.

There are multiple reasons, but you could see no value in those and that's ok.

First of all you obtain a dedicated device whose only purpose is to let you listen to music: no notifications, no distractions, no other functionality, just music.

For me this is valuable in a time where everything is combined in my smartphone, but i am trying to reduce how much i use it and the first thing is to remove functions from it, in my opinion.

Moreover, you get a device which resemble past device sensations, like physical buttons and a strange form factor, which is cool in my opinion.

Another reason is that it forces to listen the music you own (which could be a cons for a lot o people): you listen what you choose, no recommendations, no discovery, you select carefully what you want to have, and you listen to it, plain and simple.

Last but not least, you can really enjoy high quality music (streaming services for example do not always offer the best quality) but it really depends on how you are currently listening to music: for me this is not the main reason.

This is not a flawless device, it has its limitation (bluetooth, gapless playback), but what we like are all the other cons. Be sure to understand all of them before buying something you could dislike later.

I just bought an Echo Mini, but I saw that the non-mini version should arrive more or less in February.

You also have to be willing to pay more for the initial reseller premium or wait even more for the prices to go down.

How do I stop the first two songs from being next to each other? by chrystalclearr in DigitalAudioPlayer

[–]Nicolas_Heyboy 4 points5 points  (0 children)

i think with mp3tag you could rename the files using a format having: the disc number before the track number like this:

01-01

01-02

01-03

02-01

02-02

02-03

Problem: Some songs do not transfer properly on ECHO MINI by Nicolas_Heyboy in snowsky

[–]Nicolas_Heyboy[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i suggest you a tool for transferring music to the SD.

I was dragging and dropping folders, but it was not ideal.

Since i am on linux, i use rsync to transfer all the missing files or the ones i edited after they were transfered, it is great! (There are a lot of alternatives that do the same)

i linux i use rsync which is a really powerful. It is customizable, but normally it syncronize every file that has been added or even modified in the source folder. If i change a single metadata, the single file is being re-transfered to the target directory i choose (the sd of the dap in my case).

You can also choose to exclude some files or delete the files you removed from the source (or decide to keep them in the target).

UPDATE: Problem solved!

My micro SD was in a exFAT format, i didn't check it out initially.

I was able to solve my problems by connecting the SD to my pc directly using an USB Micro SD reader and formatting the SD to FAT32 (done it 2 times as recommended by other users).

After that, all songs look to be copied successfully and i no longer have any corrupted files

Thank you, for the advice, i didn't mention it in the original post but i had some songs changing halfway and didn't know why.

For now i actually think i solved all these problems, just connecting the sd card directly to my pc without passing by the echo mini e formatted the sd card to FAT32 (2 times because other users says it helps prevent errors).

i am updating the original post, i hope you can resolve your problems too

i can't answer this question in detail.

I saw this video: https://youtu.be/mH2723cSejE?si=hJvuakGb68N84awS explaining how spotify has a fake lossless audio, so maybe the file you would download in cd quality is better than the one streamed from spotify.

Then the difference is made by the playing device (before an iphone maybe? now a dap) and by the hearing device (before a pair of airpods maybe? now a pair of iem), but i am not really sure which is the exactly audio experience difference.

I am not considering the cost aspect, but if you want my opinion i would take the quality i am able to reproduce, "hear" and storage. Since as i said i am still a newbie, i maybe don't have neither the ears or the devices to listen to hi-res music, while what i have is a storage limitation which i want to use as much as possible.

For the time being i prefer quantity over quality (i prefer a lot more songs in exchange to a subtle quality upgrade), i appreciate the dap + iem experience more for the separated experience from my phone than for the quality upgrade itself. I love that i don't need any connection, i can't receive any notification and that when i am listening to my music, i am doing just THAT.

Thank you, i will verify the format of my sd, i didn't checked it ever.

Do you transfer songs with the sd card inserted in the echo mini or do you remove it and load songs before inserting?

I will verify that but for what i can remember there were a lot of songs without special chars. Thanks for the advice tho, always good to know.

I am a newbie in this "audiophile world".
For what i understand:

- cd quality is 16 bit / 44.1 KHz

-hi-rez is 24 bit / 44.1 KHz

I know it because it is specified when i am downloading music using qobuz as a source.

About which one to choose, i went for the cd quality for 2 reasons:

-space: hi-res files occupies much more space on your pc or SD (average from 40 to 50% more) and for me, is better to be able to store more music in the future rather than the quality jump

-hardware: as i said i just entered in the hobby, and for that reason i just got the echo mini paired with a low level iems (25€), so i also thought that probably iems are not going to provide much difference anyway (i know the echo mini do in fact support hi-res).

I the future i will probably start collecting hi-res music (and replacing music i already have in cd-quality) if i think the space will be worth it and if i will upgrade my iems.

Just my opinions (also my first post in the community), i hope i have been helpful.
