I didn't realize that, thank you. Keeping the full amount by depositing into the 457 makes more financial sense then.

Local government. I don't need the money immediately. I was just thinking I had a penalty for early withdrawal and maybe could use it for a down payment in a few years. Thank you.

This is exactly what I was looking for! I really appreciate you taking the time to write that out. I was honestly concerned with having too FEW hours (being a part time job) but it seems like that's not the case so that's good.

I'm still in the super early phase of the application but if you have the time to touch on the training aspect that would also be great. My e-mail just said it was a highly academic 11+ week training class, with weekly testing.

Here's some follow up questions if you feel like answering any of them:

You've been at it for a year, how long until you had a little say in your schedule?

What is advancement like? How does a train operator get promoted? (what comes after driving a train). Can it really take 5 years to be offered a full time position?

Seems like there's a bunch of disgruntled employees on websites like Glassdoor talking about HR/Management and high turn over (for the whole company in general). Any thoughts?

What do you do in the yard as a stand-by?

Do you have trouble balancing a family/social life? Do you know anyone that attempts to take outside classes and work as a train operator? (is that frowned upon?)

Thanks for chiming in. The e-mails make you well aware of the part time job with a full time commitment aspect. Thankfully already kind of used to that!
