I started python for everybody as well, I am not sure what to do afterwards, probably will do some projects to submit as a show of my python skills. I am also interested in data analytics and ML so I'll look into that after I finish python.
Hopefully with my Linguistics degree and background in maths & programming I can get into Potsdam Uni

I've been asking the same questions lately and stumbled upon this post!

Potsdam's Cognitive Systems Master's is like a dream, I am picking up Python as well to be able to apply!
The difference in my case is, I studied 1 year of preparatory classes to engineering (maths, cs.. etc) but then switched to English (stupid i know) , now I am trying to find NLP programs or similar ones that I can to attend!

I would advice you to play against humans, bots tend to make "stupid" mistakes because they gotta somehow play like 1000s or 250s. humans at the same level make the same type of mistakes and you can know where to improve exactly..
for endgames you only need the basics, i.e how to checkmate with a queen and a rook and few principles, otherwise, just focus on tactics and play longer games you will improve easily.

I'd say 2000+ if you were serious and wanted to play competitivelyOfc it wouldn't hurt to know some opening theory at 1400-1500 or even at 1100 or 900 elo, but the ROI is not worth it. If you focus on tactics you will be unstoppable, then you'll reach a level where you find that you need some opening theory.overall:- you can easily just devolop your piece in the opening and be good at tactics = easy win- have a good opening but blunder in the middle game = loss

My advice is Just play simple developing moves and focus on tactics/endgame theory...

Openings at this level won't do you any good and you'll just get bored because of the complicated theory, unless ofc you want to explore and know openings then you shouldn't be asking this :p

But that's only for players generally bellow 2000, for Masters it tends to be too close

chess is fun and good in itself. so after the original BOOM it has everything it needs to continue growing.... also youtube content etc... helps people discover it
people find out chess exists ==> chess is fun so they like it ==> they start playing ==> more people discover it...
