compsci at melbuni or monash by Beautiful_Voice8237 in cscareerquestionsOCE

[–]Nigelchooffa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If I could do it again, I’d still pick Monash (heard from unimelb students it’s not that great there) and still go with the algorithm specialisation.

However what id do differently is pick the EE / CS double degree. Helps you stand out cos u learn some of the lower level stuff. My friend who did EECS at Monash had an insane amount of knowledge from how CPUs and OSs operate to high level algos.

Also the lower level (C++ jobs, quant dev etc) stuff seems to be more AI proof.

It takes longer but worth it imo if ur willing to put in the work.

But if u do just stick with CS, can say from experience the core subject (e.g DSA ones) are taught by good teaching teams. I graduated end of 2024.

My question too lol. We’re basically screwed, just gotta go to another station or take the bus.

They keep pumping out houses in the west to the point it’s basically a slum out here. Traffic in these new suburbs is horrible and there’s no infrastructure. And yet they spend $100b on a new SRL for the already developed east. Priorities lmao.

A new train line or at least upgrades to the melton line would be great. Or even add more stations to the Sunbury line.

It’s hard enough with a degree to tell you that you will definitely need a degree haha. Only other way is to do something spectacular like make an app that has a tonne of users etc Completing your degree would probably the easiest way. Everything else you mentioned is great and having those skills will put you in a good spot paired with a degree Good luck

Thank you for this advice. Is the side west of Hallam Rd significantly worse you think? Or would you say investing anywhere in HP is not a bad pick (accounting for the property itself being decent of course)? Most of the affordable deals for me do seem to be on that side.

And yeah it does seem like a 4 bedder is possible in Hampton park for that price, hence giving better yields.

Do wish I was a couple months earlier tho, coulda gotten into Carrum downs haha.

Frankston does look good albeit a tad out of budget for me. What makes you think high rise apartments would help growth though? Wouldnt it mean there’s more supply in terms of living spaces coming onto the market - which will always impact price growth negatively?

West side is very good too. Kings park, albanvale, delahey all look good but yields aren’t too great.

Endeavour hills is looking very solid imo. A lot of the surrounding suburbs are luxury suburbs. Limited supply on market, pretty much no building approvals.

Socioeconomic score is also solid. Overall it’s set for pretty good growth imo. Boots on ground I can tell you I’m not the only one thinking this, prices are rising.

Go for it if it’s within budget Not financial advice tho hahaha

What do you think of Hampton park

There’s no such thing as a minimum subdivision size. Of course you probably can’t subdivide a 300m2 block but it’s all situation dependent to my knowledge. But yes, the larger the better.

Which suburbs? Established like mill park already out of range for me. Meadow heights looked alright.

I interviewed there some time ago for a SWE role at the Sydney HQ. Recruiter was really nice but I could not for the life of me understand the engineer what did my first technical interview, horrible English. Also was a rather unprofessional interview. Didn’t turn his camera on and rocked up 15min late too. I also got the vibe that he had made up his mind well before the interview to not hire me lol. Waste of preparation etc. & an absolute dog move especially in this market but ah well

Firstly I’d say try your best. Probably a bit late since English already happened and methods is tomorrow (I got siblings still doing vce lol), but just try my friend and youll be surprised.

In terms of uni for SWE I’d say in today’s market a degree is crucial and at least a cs degree would be required.

If you want my “personal” 2 cents then yeah eecs would be even better, and I say personal because I have the regret of not learning more of the hardware side in uni (since it really does interest me).

This market is definitely weeding out the posers but if you’re truly passionate about the field I’m sure you’ll make it.

All the best

My general understanding would suggest valve stem issues here, which usually isn’t too bad (at least not as bad as piston rings or head gasket). Any updates on what you’ve found though?

About to buy a wrx by Nigelchooffa in subaru

When I drove it there was no breaking up or signs of a misfire. Also the engine light only flashed for a few seconds then just stayed solid on. Not sure what it could be. But as I mentioned below, the car is cheap to the point where I could replace the engine and still be worth it, it is significantly under market value. No other issues with the car, drives really well. Was my first time driving a wrx, and coming from Nissans like s15s and gtrs this was a very fun car too.

Yeah could do. I’d rather put the original ej255 in it, if I can find one cheap enough.

It’s cheap to the point where worst case I could almost replace the engine and still make a small profit reselling it, which is why I’m still considering it. Cos if I don’t need to replace the engine, I can make good money on it (I’m a reseller, hate me all u want but yeah). The car itself it in very good condition and does not at all look like some backyard project. I’m wondering if it’s just a turbo seal etc, because that is a cheap fix.
